PSAT Day is on Wednesday, October 11th
On October 11, 2017, CRLS will have an altered daily schedule due to administration of the PSAT for 10th and 11th grade students, and Chromebook orientation, which will include maintenance of the device and digital citizenship for 9th grade students. All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are expected to arrive to school by 8:05AM. Following administration of the PSAT, and Digital Citizenship training program, students in grade 9-11 will be dismissed at approximately 11:30AM. 12th graders will not be required to come to school on Wednesday, October 11th, and are being encouraged to do college/university visits, work on college applications, or perform community service hours. CRLS Global Scholars Program
Students, would you like to travel the world and make a difference in your community as a global citizen? Then a CIEE scholarship may be for you. Travel opportunities are available in many countries for Language and Culture, Service and Leadership or Global Discovery. The CRLS Global Scholars Program would like to invite all interested families to a CIEE Global Navigator travel scholarship informational meeting at CRLS in the Media Caf on Wednesday, October 4th from 6-7:30PM. Upcoming Event Celebrating RSTA Culinary Students
On Tuesday, October 3 at 12Noon, Sara Kennedy, the Director of Government and Community Relations for of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, will be at the Falcons' Nest Restaurant on the second floor of CRLS to congratulate Chef Rick McKinney and those Rindge School of Technical Arts Culinary students who participated in the Char/Bar Competition held in Kendall Square last August. The students, under Chef Rick's guidance, produced their version of grilled hamburgers which was voted "Best Classic Burger" from among about a dozen restaurants from Cambridge who competed. Aspen allows you to view your child's grades, attendance, class work, and homework any time it is convenient for you. There is a link to Aspen from the CRLS parents web page. Friends of CRLS Spring Bash Planning Meeting October 5th
Friends of CRLS invites everyone interested to our Bash Planning meeting on Thursday, October 5th from 7 to 8:15PM in CRLS's Teachers' Resource Center (3rd floor, above the CRLS Library). Last year, our first Bash was a smash! Hosted and catered by Google, the event drew 250 guests, student entertainers, and luminaries and featured delicious food and great door prizes. Best of all, the Bash raised over $50,000 to support CRLS student success! Please help us make our second annual Bash our second annual smash, starting by attending this meeting. Questions? FOCA

Get Involved with FOCA
There are many opportunities for parent engagement at CRLS and the Friends of Cambridge Athletics (FOCA) supports many aspects of this process for the athletics program. Participation is simple and there are many volunteer opportunities. Areas range from FOCA events to serving as parent liaison to teams. To learn more about our work and to get involved visit our website, send an email, or just come to one of our meetings held the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Athletics office 6 - 7:30PM.

CSV Partners with IBM
In efforts to support CRLS and CPS goals to ensure student success with post-secondary education planning, CSV is excited to announce and share information about a new service we added to the College/Career Mentoring Program. CSV is partnering with IBM to support seniors with college/career planning on Fridays from Oct to Feb. If you know a senior who will apply to a computer science, business management, or general science program, please have them meet and sign up with Deandra Williams on Wednesday, October 4, at 2:30PM in CCRC, room 1501. The service kickoff date is Friday, October 6th at 3PM. The location will be announced. This program is an extension of the college/career mentoring services which take place on Wednesdays in the CCRC. Please continue to encourage students to come and get help from a mentor to complete college, gap-year, vocational, and scholarship applications.

Are You Our Newest Volunteer? Opportunities K-12

Do you want to connect more deeply to the community? Would you like to help a local student to succeed? Cambridge School Volunteers is currently seeking tutors, classroom volunteers, college mentors, Reading Buddies, and more to help students in the Cambridge Public Schools. Our volunteers are in every public school, from junior kindergarten through the high school, helping students to succeed in school. Could you be our next great volunteer? We hate to brag, but our volunteers are the cat's meow. Come join us this fall by signing up for a volunteer orientation! (Remember, returning volunteers don't need to come to an orientation, but you will be asked to come in to re-register.) Please share this with people that you know that could inspire, nurture, or coach a student to succeed.

MIT Science on Saturday
Our next free MIT campus Science on Saturday event will be "Biotechnology" at 10AM on October 14th. Have you ever wondered how DNA works or how living organisms can be genetically engineered? Join Biogen scientists for this highly interactive workshop, which will include an on-stage presentation in which students from the audience can volunteer to help with lots of cool demonstrations. Following the stage presentation, there will be fun hands-on activity tables where students can conduct their own biology and biotechnology experiments.

There is also half-price, same-day admission to the MIT Museum for Science on Saturday attendees.

All of our Science on Saturday events on the MIT campus are free and open to all K-12 students, as well as their parents and teachers. They are sponsored by the MIT Museum and the Akamai Foundation. Parking and seating are limited, so we recommend that you arrive early. Attendees can park in either the West Garage (very close to the event) or Albany Garage (a ~10-15-minute walk from the event) provided they can pay the $8 flat fee with a credit card at either parking garage. Alternatively, attendees can take MBTA buses to the MIT Massachusetts Avenue stop (very close to the event) or the subway to either the Central or Kendall Square T stops (a ~20-minute walk from the event).
