Audition Time!
Modern Dance Company, Big Band, and Concert Band
The CRLS Modern Dance Company will hold auditions on Tuesday, September 19th. Come join the fun and learn and perform dances created by students, faculty, and guest artists! Dancers must sign up in advance, please see Ms. D in the dance studio (Room 0621) for more information.
Auditions for the CRLS Big Band will take place on Wednesday, September 20th. Big Band is a year long large jazz ensemble that rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 9PM. Instruments include saxophones, trumpets, trombones, guitar, piano, bass and drums. We perform styles of funk, latin, swing, bebop and rock. Please see Mr. Powers in room 0607 to sign up and receive audition materials.
It's not too late to join Concert Band! This large performance ensemble is for those students who play a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. It meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the band room, 0607. Don't have an instrument? Not a problem, we have many to lend out. Join us this week if you are interested! Orienteering Starts at CRLS
The new CRLS orienteering team is accepting new students. In orienteering, you use a map to visit checkpoints as quickly as possible. We will practice in parks and race in forests. For more information, contact the Athletic Department.

Aspen Access for Families
Aspen allows you to view your child's grades, attendance, class work, and homework any time it is convenient for you. There is a link to Aspen from the CRLS parents web page. We are here to help support you with any login issues. We can also provide you with some tips for navigating through the Aspen tabs. Please email the CRLS Tech Center anytime.
Club Day
Club Days will be a Club fair during all three lunches on September 28th. Students will be able to visit club booths, talk to current members of each club to learn more about clubs, and sign-up to participate in clubs.

Learn about the organization, mingle with others who care about student success, and find out how you can make a difference.
FOCRLS is a dynamic nonprofit association providing Scholarships, Student Travel Fellowships, Faculty Innovation Grants, Faculty Distinction Awards, and Unsung Heroes Awards, all of which they're able to do by working with volunteers. FOCRLS is seeking participants for various events (including their second spring gala at Google!), website improvement, social media updates, serving on their Board, and much more. Students receive Community Service credit (a requirement for CRLS graduation) for volunteering with FOCRLS.

Get Involved with FOCA
There are many opportunities for parent engagement at CRLS and the Friends of Cambridge Athletics (FOCA) supports many aspects of this process for the athletics program. Participation is simple and there are many volunteer opportunities. Areas range from FOCA events to serving as parent liaison to teams. Do you want to connect more deeply to the community? Would you like to help a local student to succeed? Cambridge School Volunteers is currently seeking tutors, classroom volunteers, college mentors, Reading Buddies, and more to help students in the Cambridge Public Schools. Our volunteers are in every public school, from junior kindergarten through the high school, helping students to succeed in school. Could you be our next great volunteer? We hate to brag, but our volunteers are the cat's meow. Come join us this fall by signing up for a volunteer orientation! (Remember, returning volunteers don't need to come to an orientation, but you will be asked to come in to re-register.) Please share this with people that you know that could inspire, nurture, or coach a student to succeed.

MIT Science on Saturday
Our next free MIT campus Science on Saturday event will be "Biotechnology" at 10AM on October 14th. Have you ever wondered how DNA works or how living organisms can be genetically engineered? Join Biogen scientists for this highly interactive workshop, which will include an on-stage presentation in which students from the audience can volunteer to help with lots of cool demonstrations. Following the stage presentation, there will be fun hands-on activity tables where students can conduct their own biology and biotechnology experiments.
There is also half-price, same-day admission to the MIT Museum for Science on Saturday attendees.
All of our Science on Saturday events on the MIT campus are free and open to all K-12 students, as well as their parents and teachers. They are sponsored by the MIT Museum and the Akamai Foundation. Parking and seating are limited, so we recommend that you arrive early. Attendees can park in either the West Garage (very close to the event) or Albany Garage (a ~10-15-minute walk from the event) provided they can pay the $8 flat fee with a credit card at either parking garage. Alternatively, attendees can take MBTA buses to the MIT Massachusetts Avenue stop (very close to the event) or the subway to either the Central or Kendall Square T stops (a ~20-minute walk from the event). The MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound will be having Guest Visitation Days this Fall
Upward Bound Program provides after school tutoring during the school year and a six-week residential summer program at Wellesley College. The program also offers academic support and college preparation guidance including college tours and senior seminars. Both the school year and summer session offer various recreational and cultural activities and field trips.

Tutoring Center
Do you need your own 1:1 tutor to help in any subject? Come by the Tutoring Center, Room 2132, to fill out a request form for a tutor. See Mr. Duche or Ms. Williams. Cambridge School Volunteers will work to find a tutor who can help you once or twice a week.
Tutoring sessions happen before school, 7:30 - 8AM, Mon-Fri or after school, 2:45 - 3:45PM, Mon-Fri. starting September 25. Don't wait until you are behind! Request some support now.
