Mad Hot Ballroom
Over the course of the past 8 weeks in Physical Education class the 5th graders at the FMA have been practicing their dance moves. The students learned to merengue, salsa, swing, waltz, and tango. The dance classes at school culminated with an evening at the high school where all the fifth graders from Cambridge dressed in their Sunday best for an evening of dancing to show off their new moves. In addition to the 5th graders displaying their new skills, the dance team from MIT came and performed for the audience. The evening ended with the merengue dance-off in which the merengue champions were named from each elementary school.
Congratulations to Edlawit, JP, and Felicity for taking home the evening’s awards for the FMA and to all our students who did such a wonderful job all spring! Many thanks to all the families and staff who made it out to the high school to cheer on our students on their big night!
FMA Book Fair
By: Ms. Newtwon
FMA raised a significant amount in scholastic dollars allowing every student to go home with a summer reading book.Thank you to Ms. Aishah, the librarian, parents, and students that supported the book fair. I would like to recognize Kianna Brasil for helping out with the books fair. Also, a wonderful thank you to the custodians for helping to make the book fair a success. Finally, a big thank you to everyone that contributed to the book fair.
FMA Visits Freedom Trail
Recently, the third graders of Room 311/306 took a step back in history to follow the Freedom Trail. The students have spent the last few months learning all about Massachusetts’ role in the American Revolution and researching famous figures from that time period. We began our adventure at the Old South Meeting House where we learned about the meeting that led to the Boston Tea Party and participated in a Scavenger Hunt.
Following this, we also made stops at Granary Burying Ground, the site of the first public school, and Paul Revere’s House. At Revere’s house in the North End, students were excited to share all they had learned and were quick to tell our tour guide that Paul Revere wasn’t the only one who rode to Lexington and Concord to warn them of the approaching British. They were also shocked to see the size of the house where he and his second wife raised their 16 children! It was a great trip and a wonderful glance into the past!
