Fourth Grade Poets
On Tuesday, April 4, FMA poets read their lyrical work to an audience of parents, faculty, and staff. The spectators were asked to listen for voice organization word choice in the narratives and listen for descriptive language in poetry. The poetry chosen was either in celebration of autism week or a poem written for the curiosity challenge. Amaya Ellis and Jackson Beckfield had an opportunity to share their poetry the night before at city hall in the autism awareness event celebration. Parents and teachers filled the fourth grade classroom and students were extremely proud of their work!
FMA Courageous Conversations
The Fletcher Maynard Community cares deeply about issues of race, diversity, and equity. As the broader demographic makeup of the City of Cambridge changes, so does the makeup of our school community. There is significant diversity across our students, families, faculty, and staff, and community members. As part of the Academy’s commitment “to building and nurturing a community of caring citizens who are lifelong learners” we take a holistic approach to schooling and educating our students. To complement the students’ academic education, we believe deeply in the importance of prosocial and socio-emotional education. Prosocial and socio-emotional support not only makes for a more “caring citizen”, it also supports academic preparedness and learning. Read more >>

"E" Inc.
The Green Team, led by "e" inc. educator, Marissa Gallant is just getting underway this spring at Fletcher Maynard Academy. This group of motivated 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will seek to make their school a zero waste zone by reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting. This year's Green Team will lead the school in meeting these goals through creating classroom recycling contests, reusing, and recycling old crayons, creating art from up-cycled materials, and much more. Stay tuned to follow their progress and don't forget to ask a Green Team member how you can get involved!
Jerry Seinfeld
In the spring I watched Seinfeld for the first time and I loved it! I laughed so hard my belly hurt. We watched Seinfeld on tv and sat on the sofa. I was watching with Elisa Mom and Dad. We watched one episode: The Good Samaritan. In the episode Jerry saw a car hit another car, meanwhile Kramer had his bandage on his head from the mysterious accident. I was feeling confused about about the show at the beginning. Later Dad helped me understand what was going on in the show. We ate salty popcorn and laughed. George Elaine and Kramer were funny. Gymnastics
It was a bright day. So sunny that every time I looked up I had to squint my eyes. I was in the middle of trying to get on a beam. I kept falling it was so embarrassing!! I felt so embarrassed that I wanted to crawl into a ball and never come out but I wasn't going to embarrass my self even more because do you know how bad that would be if I just decided to crawl into a hole my life would be over. When I finally got on I started to do a leap but something happened… I slipped! I almost fell flat face on the mat but my hands caught me. Read on >>
