Dear Families,
This week we celebrated “Read Across Amigos”. Students and staff dedicated time to talk about the importance of literacy in our lives and took the “Read Across Amigos Pledge”. Our week culminated in an amazing All School Assembly that focused on “Empathy”, the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. It is an important skill that we hope to instill in all our young people.
March is also MABE month. The Massachusetts Association for Bilingual Education (MABE) holds its annual conference each March. This year the conference is being held in Willimantic, Connecticut home of the Compañeros School. The theme of the conference is Making Connections From Early Childhood to High School Graduation in Dual Language Programs. As part of the conference, Amigos will, once again, be opening its doors to MABE attendees. We will also have quite a few staff members who have been selected to present at the conference and share some of the great work we do at Amigos. Families should know that the conference is open to parents, guardians and caregivers as well. Please let me know if you are interested in attending.
The 8th grade’s efforts toward their trip to New York are moving along! We started our online auction on Monday and have raised $2,160. While this sounds like a lot, our final goal is $6000 so that ALL students can enjoy this trip. If you haven’t done so yet, please take a look. There are many new items like a 5-day rental on the beach in Connecticut and tickets for plays at both the American Repertory Theater (ART) and the Huntington Theater. We also have the great honor of hosting a “Meet and Greet” with award-winning Dominican American author, Junot Diaz! You really don’t want to miss it!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Estimadas Familias,
Atentamente,
Sarah Bartels-Marrer
