Sarah

Dear Families,

At Amigos, we respect and honor all cultures, heritages and backgrounds, we listen to our diverse opinions and we respectfully use the power of our voices to advocate for ourselves and support one another. These beliefs have been and will always be at the core of our Amigos community. In light of current national events, I feel it is important to reaffirm these beliefs. I recognize that many in our community are feeling scared and apprehensive. If you or your family has any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. There are many resources that we can access together should there be the need.

This week, we had a great turnout for our informative conversation about social media awareness. Our own Mr. K, in conjunction with the Cambridge Police, led a conversation about how parents can develop a greater understanding of cyber safety and help children make healthy decisions when using cell phones and social media. He also reviewed what we teach in school regarding cyber safety and social media and clarified the laws related to inappropriate social media use.

We also had a building lockdown drill this week. While we do not expect or anticipate a situation that requires a lockdown, it is part of our practice to be prepared for all emergencies. Our lockdown practice took place at 9:45AM this morning and lasted approximately six minutes. Classroom teachers informed students of the drill ahead of time, in an age appropriate manner. As always, they practiced the routines prior to the drill and had the opportunity to ask questions before we practiced the lockdown. Please contact me or if you have any questions about the drill.

Hope to see you at Multicultural Night tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Estimadas familias,

Sinceramente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
