Dear Families,
We had a great first week of March here at Amigos. Students have been learning so much! Some of the fascinating topics being studied include: persuasive letter writing in 1st grade, perimeter and area in 3rd grade, “This I Believe” essays and human skull analysis in 6th grade and convection currents, wind and climate change in 8th grade. It is always so amazing to see our students doing this work in two languages. Read one of the essays >>
Today we celebrated “Read Across Amigos Day”. The Cat in the Hat visited classrooms and all students and staff took time to read and appreciate the importance of literacy in our lives.
March is also MABE month. The Massachusetts Association for Bilingual Education (MABE) holds its annual conference each March. This year the conference is being held at the Barbieri School in Framingham. The theme of the conference is Making Connections Between Policy and Practice. As part of the conference, Amigos will be opening its doors to MABE attendees on March 16 and 17th. We will also be sending a team of teachers to attend the conference on Saturday. Families should know that the conference is open to parents, guardians and caregivers as well.
I hope you have had the chance to participate in the very brief survey on Family Engagement that was sent out last week. If you did not have the chance, please take a moment to do so now. The information you provide in this survey will support us as we move forward with our plan.

Tuvimos una gran semana inicial de marzo aquí en Amigos. ¡Los estudiantes han estado aprendiendo muchísimo! Algunos de los temas fascinantes incluyen: cartas persuasivas en primer grado, perímetro y área en 3er grado, ensayos de “Eso creo yo” y el análisis de la evolución de cráneos humanos en 6to y el estudio de corrientes de convección, viento y cambio climático en el 8vo grado. ¡Siempre es tan increíble ver a nuestros estudiantes hacer este trabajo en dos idiomas! Hoy celebramos "El día de lectura a través de Amigos". El “Gato con sombrero” visitó a los salones y todos los estudiantes y el personal tomó tiempo adicional para leer y apreciar la importancia de la lectura en nuestras vidas.
Marzo es también el mes de MABE. La Asociación para la Educación Bilingüe de Massachusetts (MABE) lleva a cabo su conferencia anual cada marzo. Este año, la conferencia tomará lugar en la Escuela Barbieri en Framingham. El tema de la conferencia es “Establecer conexiones entre la política y la práctica”. Como parte de la conferencia, Amigos abrirá sus puertas a los asistentes MABE el 16 y 17 de marzo. También vamos a enviar un equipo de maestros para asistir a la conferencia el sábado. Las familias deben saber que la conferencia está también abierta a los padres, tutores y guardianes.
