Math Program

math2.jpgThe Upper School Math Program increases rigor for all grade levels, and includes the adoption of a Grade 8 Algebra course. For every unit in the math curriculum map, teachers have access to pre-assessments, menus of activities, and well-developed lessons that offer enrichment and support opportunities by lesson.

The pre-assessments allow teachers to offer specific supports for students needing reinforcement, or enrichment opportunities for students already showing deep understanding of the content. These support and enrichment resources are distributed to teachers through the math department’s Google site. An example of how the results of a pre-assessment might define instruction in a unit is shown below:

Through pre-assessments and menus, some students can complete the new Algebra 1 program by the end of Grade 8 within the heterogeneous classroom, allowing them to enter Geometry in Grade 9.
