COVID
Esta semana, 16 personas de nuestra comunidad han dado positivo en las pruebas de COVID, lo que supone un aumento significativo. Por favor, siga manteniendo a su hij@ en casa si él/ella/elle muestra algún síntoma. También, si su hij@ da positivo a Covid en casa o fuera de la escuela, por favor avísenme a mí o a la enfermera Tamara para que podamos tener un registro lo más preciso posible.

Lo más destacado del aprendizaje
La autora Jennifer De León visitó el 8vo grado de Amigos el miércoles para hablar sobre su identidad bilingüe y bicultural, la importancia de la representación en los libros y su inspiración para el personaje de Liliana, la protagonista de su novela Don’t Ask Me Where I’m From (No me preguntes de dónde soy).

Antonio Houston y Emily Wintner, estudiantes de 8vo grado y anfitriones de Jennifer de León, organizaron la sección de preguntas y respuestas sobre su proceso creativo y su libro publicado en el 2021.

Jennifer de León compartió con sinceridad y humor sobre sus experiencias criándose en los suburbios/la periferia de Boston entre dos culturas– la estadounidense y la guatemalteca. También profundizó sobre las implicaciones racistas de la pregunta ¿De dónde eres?, unas tres palabras que a simple vista parecen ser inocentes, pero guardan una historia de ofensa y exclusión.

MCAS
El MCAS continúa la proxima semana. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre el MCAS, por favor no dude en llamarnos. También, por favor, tenga en cuenta que vamos a recoger todos los teléfonos celulares de acuerdo con las normas de administración de MCAS.

El calendario de exámenes es el siguiente:
5 y 6 de mayo - 3º y 4º grado matemáticas
9 y 10 de mayo - 6º, 7º y 8º grado matemáticas
18 y 19 de mayo - 5º y 8º grado ciencias

En honor a
Recientemente hemos dedicado uno de nuestros bancos a la profesora de Amigos, Fabiola Cordano. La Sra. Cordano falleció a principios de este año, pero nos dejó su espíritu de alegría e inclusión. En su honor, ahora tenemos un banco dedicado a la amistad en nuestro patio de recreo. Si un niñ@ se siente sol@, puede ir al banco como señal de que necesita a alguien con quien jugar. Otr@ niñ@ le verá allí y le invitará a jugar. En honor a la Sra. Cordano, esperamos que este banco siga apoyando a l@s alumn@s en el desarrollo de sus habilidades sociales y emocionales.


La graduación del 8vo grado
Nuestr@s alumn@s de 8º grado se graduarán el viernes 24 de junio a la 1PM. Esto significa que el día de salida temprana para los grados JK-7 será el viernes, 24 de junio también. Por favor, tengan en cuenta: Tod@s l@s estudiantes tendrán salida temprana a las 11:30 el viernes, 24 de junio.

Jueves y viernes, 5 a 6 de mayo: MCAS de matemáticas para 3er y 4to grado.

Domingo 8 de mayo: El Día de las madres. ¡Les deseamos un feliz día a nuestras queridas madres!

Lunes y martes, 9 a 10 de mayo: MCAS de matemáticas para 6to, 7mo y 8vo grados.

Miércoles 11 de mayo: Día de salida temprana a las 12:55PM.

Miércoles 11 de mayo: Se llevará a cabo la reunión virtual del Consejo Escolar de Escuela Amigos, 6-8PM.

En junio: viernes 24 de junio: Graduación del 8vo grado de Escuela Amigos, 1PM. Jr.Kindergarten hasta 7mo grado tendrán salida temprana a las 11:30AM.

Dear Amigos Families,

COVID
16 individuals in our community tested positive for COVID this week. Please continue to keep your child home if he/she/they show any symptoms. Also, if your child tests positive for Covid at home or outside of school, please let me or Nurse Tamara know so we can have as accurate records as possible.

Learning Highlights
Author Jennifer De León visited the Amigos 8th grade on Wednesday to talk about her bilingual and bicultural identity, the importance of representation in books, and her inspiration for the character Liliana, the protagonist of her novel Don't Ask Me Where I'm From.

Jennifer de León shared with sincerity and humor about her experiences growing up in the suburbs/outskirts of Boston between two cultures- American and Guatemalan. She also delved into the racist implications of the question "Where are you from?", three words that at first glance seem innocent, but carry a history of offense and exclusion. Everyone who attended fully enjoyed the event!

MCAS
MCAS will continue next week. If you have any questions regarding MCAS, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. Also, please note that we will collect all/any cell phones in accordance with MCAS administration rules.

In Honor Of
We recently dedicated one of our benches to former Amigos teacher, Fabiola Cordano. Ms. Cordano passed away earlier this year but left us with her spirit of joy and inclusivity. In her honor, we now have a dedicated Buddy Bench on our playground. If a child feels lonely, they can go to the bench as a signal that they need someone to play with. Another child will see them there and invite them to play. In Ms. Cordano’s honor, we hope that this bench will continue to support students as they develop their social and emotional skills.


8th Grade Graduation
Our 8th graders will graduate on Friday, June 24th at 1PM. This means that early-release day for grades JK-7 will be Friday, June 24th as well. Please note: All students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Friday, June 24th.
