Message from Family Liaison

Dear Morse Community,

Happy Thursday! Happy National Poetry Month!
poetryThose Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden (1962)

Sundays too my father got up early
and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,
then with cracked hands that ached
from labor in the weekday weather made
banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.

I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking
When the rooms were warm, he’d call,
and slowly I would rise and dress,
fearing the chronic angers of that house,

Speaking indifferently to him,
who had driven out the cold
and polished my good shoes as well.
What did I know, what did I know
of love’s austere and lonely offices?

Parent Workshop on Restorative Practices TONIGHT!

Thursday, April 7th | 6-7PM
"Restorative justice" is a practice of peacemaking and reconciliation that originates from indigenous communities. It is an important part of how we build strong classroom communities at the Morse School, supports CPS discipline policies, and is an important component of our school-based approach to addressing unsafe or inappropriate student behaviors. Come join me, Dr. Leith, and Ms. Headley this evening to learn more about this approach! To attend the meeting, please complete this short online registration form or reach out directly to me. A Zoom link will be sent to your email address one hour before the meeting.

Comfy/Cozy Clothing Day

Thursday, April 14
As the result of some very persuasive writing from our 1st graders, Dr. Leith and Ms. Headley have decided to make next Thursday "Comfy/Cozy Clothing Day." Kids are invited to wear pajamas, sweats, or any other comfortable clothing. Clothing must be appropriate, of course, and for safety's sake no slippers or flip flops.
