¡Es tan difícil de creer que es casi el Día de Acción de Gracias! Por suerte el tiempo ha estado bueno y todavía podemos comer afuera. Dicho esto, por favor recuerden que deben enviar a l@s estudiantes a la escuela con ropa para el frío, especialmente guantes. Si usted está experimentando dificultad financiera con la provisión de cualquiera de estos artículos, por favor, póngase en contacto con la Sra. Lillian Rater, que es nuestra enlace de familias, para asistencia.
Tema de la semana: iReady Screeners
L@s maestr@s y asesores han disfrutado mucho de reunirse con las familias durante esta ronda de conferencias. Durante las conferencias, para l@s estudiantes en los grados 3-8, las familias están recibiendo un informe de iReady junto con las calificaciones y otros datos estudiantiles. iReady es una nueva evaluación de detección universal que CPS está utilizando para ayudarnos a identificar el progreso de l@s estudiantes hacia los estándares de nivel de grado en la lectura, las matemáticas y el español (el español está actualmente sólo disponible en los grados 3-6). Esperamos que las evaluaciones de iReady nos ayuden a identificar y enfocar exactamente dónde nuestros estudiantes necesitan enfocarse en su aprendizaje. Por ejemplo, en la lectura un@ estudiante puede necesitar trabajar en el desarrollo del vocabulario mientras que otr@ estudiante necesita trabajar en la comprensión.
Observar los exámenes en los distintos niveles de grado también nos ayuda a ver las tendencias más amplias en todo el edificio. Por ejemplo, hemos visto que en matemáticas tod@s l@s estudiantes necesitan trabajar en su comprensión de la geometría y en la lectura, tod@s l@s estudiantes necesitan alcanzar y crecer en su comprensión de los textos informativos.
Los informes iReady no se tienen en cuenta en las calificaciones ni se incluyen en los boletines de notas. Son simplemente una herramienta que utilizamos para comprender mejor y orientar las necesidades de aprendizaje de nuestr@s alumn@s. Apoyando a nuestro graduado
¡Hola familias de Amigos! Mi nombre es Calvin Lewis, y tal vez me recuerden de la colecta de ropa en la primavera. ¡A pesar de que ahora soy un estudiante de primer año en la escuela secundaria, estoy de vuelta con la segunda parte! Esta vez, estamos recolectando alimentos para ser entregados al Centro Comunitario de Cambridge. Ellos están buscando específicamente
- aceite de cocina (canola, oliva, coco, etc)
- condimentos básicos y especias (sal, pimienta, cayena, comino, cúrcuma, pimentón, etc)
- caldo de sopa (de verduras y de pollo)
- arroz y pasta
- cereales para el desayuno
- productos enlatados/no perecibles

Grupo de Conversaciones Valientes de Amigos
Por favor, tómese un momento para rellenar la siguiente encuesta: ACC Community Input Survey. El grupo Amigos Courageous Conversations (ACC) existe para crear espacios seguros para que los padres/madres y cuidadores discutan cómo los temas de equidad e inclusión afectan a nuestras familias y a la comunidad escolar en general. Construimos conexiones a través de la conversación entre un grupo diverso de cuidadores y exploramos acciones específicas que podríamos tomar juntos para hacer que nuestra comunidad sea más inclusiva y equitativa.
En el nuevo año estamos comenzando un Grupo de Acción contra el Racismo y a favor de la Equidad con el fin de aumentar las oportunidades de discusión y apoyo a través de la comunidad de Amigos. Como grupo de cuidadores, nuestro objetivo es unirnos al personal de Amigos para identificar y practicar acciones que apoyen el desmantelamiento de las desigualdades sistémicas presentes en la comunidad general de Amigos. Viajes
COVID
El Grupo de Trabajo de Salud y Seguridad de edificios en CPS ha hecho algunas revisiones a la política de viajes del distrito.
- Para l@s estudiantes y el personal, tanto vacunados como no vacunados, que viajen a nivel nacional (dentro de los Estados Unidos), por favor háganse la prueba antes del viaje y 3-5 días después de su regreso.
- Para los que viajan al extranjero, las personas vacunadas deben hacerse la prueba 3-5 días después de su regreso. Las personas no vacunadas deben hacerse la prueba 3-5 días después del viaje y estar en cuarentena durante 7 días. Si los individuos no vacunados no se hacen la prueba, deben estar en cuarentena durante 10 días después del viaje.

El portal de vacunación de los estudiantes está abierto. Todos l@s estudiantes de 6º a 8º grado deben subir pruebas de vacunación o presentar solicitudes de exención.
Trabajo escolar
Si usted piensa viajar con su familia por un periodo extendido, debe notificar con antelación las fechas de su viaje a la directora, el asesor o l@s maestr@s de salón hogar. Todo el trabajo académico asignado por l@s profesores debe ser completado durante o después del tiempo de viaje. Sin embargo, l@s profesores no están obligad@s a planificar con 3 semanas de antelación.

It is so hard to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving! Luckily the weather has held out and we are still able to eat lunch outside. That said, please remember to send students to school with cold weather clothes, especially gloves. If you are experiencing financial difficulty with providing any of these items, please contact Ms. Lillian Rater, our Family Liaison, for assistance.
Topic of the Week: iReady Screeners
Teachers and advisors have really enjoyed meeting with families during this round of conferences. During conferences for students in grades 3-8, families are receiving an iReady report along with grades and other data points. iReady is a new universal screening assessment CPS is using to help us identify student progress towards grade level standards in reading, math and Spanish (Spanish is currently only available in grades 3-6). It is our hope that the iReady screeners will help us pinpoint and target exactly where our students need to focus in their learning. For example, in reading one student may need to work on vocabulary development while another student needs to work on comprehension.
Looking at the screeners across the grade levels also helps us to look at larger trends throughout the building. For example, we have seen that in math all students need to work on their understanding of geometry and in reading, all students need to grow in their comprehension of informational texts.
iReady reports are not factored into grades or included on report cards. They are simply one tool we are using to better understand and target the learning needs of our students. Supporting Our Alum
Hello Amigos families! My name is Calvin Lewis, and you may remember me from the clothing drive in the spring. Even though I am now a freshman in high school, I am back with part 2! This time, we are collecting food to be delivered to the Cambridge Community Center. They are specifically looking for
- cooking oil (canola, olive, coconut, etc)
- basic seasoning & spices (salt, pepper, cayenne, cumin, turmeric, paprika, etc) - soup stock (veg & chicken)
- rice & pasta
- breakfast cereal
- canned goods/non perishables

Amigos Courageous Conversations Group
Please take a moment to fill out the following brief survey: ACC Community Input Survey. The Amigos Courageous Conversations (ACC) group exists to create safe spaces for parents and caregivers to discuss how issues of equity and inclusivity impact our families and the greater school community. We build connections through conversation across a diverse group of caregivers and explore specific actions we might take together to make our community more inclusive and equitable.
In the new year we are beginning an Antiracism & Equity Action Group in order to increase opportunities for discussion and support across the wider Amigos Community. As a group of caregivers, our goal is to join the Amigos staff to identify and practice actions that will support the dismantling of systemic inequities present in the wider community of Amigos. We thank you for sharing your ideas with us!
Travel
COVID
CPS’ Health, Safety and Facilities Working Group has made some revisions to the district’s travel policy.
- For both vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff traveling domestically (within the United States), please get tested prior to travel and 3-5 days after your return.
- For those traveling internationally, vaccinated individuals should get tested 3-5 days after return. Unvaccinated individuals should test 3-5 days after travel AND quarantine for 7 days. If unvaccinated individuals are not tested, they should be quarantined for 10 days after travel.

The student vaccination portal is open. All students in grades 6-8 should upload proof of vaccination or submit exemption requests.
School Work
If you are planning to travel for an extended period of time, the principal and classroom teachers must be notified in advance of travel dates. All academic work assigned by teachers will need to be made up during or after travel, however teachers are not required to plan 3 weeks in advance.

Water Bottle Classroom Initiative
for 1st and 3rd Graders

The Cambridge Healthy Smiles program completed its annual Water Bottle Classroom Initiative this month. Students in Grades 1 and 3 received a personal water bottle to use at school to promote oral health. The program visits classrooms to teach an oral health lesson about the benefits of drinking water and how to take care of their teeth during their school day. Parents of 1st and 3rd graders are given an opportunity to ask questions they may have about their family’s dental health filling out this survey.
