Sinceramente,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora

Dear Amigos Families,

Happy Hispanic/Latinx Heritage month and Welcome to October! It is hard to believe the first month of school went by so quickly.

Learning Highlights
In Ms. Lewis’s 3rd grade class, students have been working with our school values of compassion, perseverance and integrity. They took time to draw and write about what the values mean to them. They did a great job!

Amigos African Diaspora United

The AADU held its first meeting of the year this past Tuesday and hope that you will join us for future meetings and events. On Saturday October 9th, we will have our first event, a social/family event, at the Amigos School from 10 - 1PM. Our next meeting is October 26th from 6 - 7PM and we will meet on the last Tuesday of each month, so we will also meet on Tuesday November 30th.

What are CPS’s travel policies?
Standard
If you are taking a vacation and your student is going to miss fewer than 10 days, please inform the principal in writing/email.

1. In your written request please include the dates of departure and return.
2. We will mark your student as having an excused absence for reason of family vacation.
3. If no notification is received then the student will be marked as unexcused.
4. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to support their student in completing any missed school assignments upon return.
5. Any trip that involves a student missing more than 10 days of school
requires a sabbatical leave

COVID
The purpose of CPS travel policies is to minimize the likelihood that individuals who have potentially been exposed to COVID will enter CPS buildings. Therefore, travel policies may change periodically in response to changes in vaccination rates and infection rates in other communities.

Travel within New England and New York State is allowed with no special precautions regardless of vaccination status.

For domestic travel outside of New England and New York State, fully vaccinated individuals must self-monitor symptoms for 14 days and unvaccinated/partially vaccinated individuals must quarantine for 7 consecutive days, get tested with a viral (PCR) test 3-5 days after travel, and can return to school on Day 8 with proof of negative test.

For international travel, vaccinated individuals must self-monitor for symptoms and get tested on day 3-5 upon return. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who travel internationally must quarantine for 7 days, get tested with a viral (PCR) test 3-5 days after travel, and may return on the 8th day after returning home from travel with a negative test.

Cell Phones
Cell phone graphicThe school does not allow the use of cell phones or any wireless telecommunication devices during the school day. If students bring cell phones or electronic devices to school, we require that all phones be kept in students’ lockers or backpacks during the day.

Students who need to make emergency calls during the day are asked to speak to their teachers directly.  Arrangements are always made for students in these cases.

Electronic devices including ear buds (I-phones, I-pads, DS’s, etc.) are also not allowed for use during school hours unless associated with an educational activity. Please speak with your student to reinforce this rule.

Parent Mask Initiative
CPS parents are organizing a bulk order of masks that have been tested and shown to be highly protective. These masks are ~$0.80 each and can safely be reused for a full week (40 hours).

You have an opportunity to purchase, or request for free, highly-protective and breathable masks in sizes from XS (toddler) to L (large adult) and with adjustable earloops.

You can order or request free masks by Wed, Oct 6 at cambridgemasks.org (también en español). You can also make a direct donation to the project. We also have sample masks to give out.

For any questions, please email us.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal
