Dear Families,
We are working hard to prepare for April 5. You will receive specific information about your child's class on or before April 2.
This is what we know now:
- Grades JK-8: Required to shift to full-time, in-person instruction five days per week effective Monday, April 5, 2021.
- The state requires that classrooms be set up for at least 3 feet physical distancing and at least 6 feet physical distancing during mealtimes.
- All students and staff are required to wear masks and follow our established safety protocols.
- Shifting to in-person may mean that your child changes teachers or classrooms.
- Depending on staffing, your child’s teacher may be in-person or teaching remotely, and “streaming in” to the classroom.
- You cannot request a specific teacher or classroom and you may not find out your child’s teacher or classroom configuration until schedules are finalized.
- Student numbers for April 5: In-person: 298, Remote: 109
Please note that April 2 will be the last day for Grab and Go Lunch at Amigos. Our kitchen team needs to focus entirely on serving breakfast and lunch to our face-to-face students.
Important Information About the Transition to CRLS
As part of the district-wide and school-based initiative to identify teaching and learning needs for the school year 2021-2022 and to ensure that our students have a successful transition to high school, we wanted to unpack CRLS’s Spanish classes with you.
We have met with District World Language Instructional Coach Janice Reeves-Rivera to fully understand the levels expected for each Spanish class at CRLS. That way, our class recommendations can be clearer. Our conversation led to the following understanding about what is now covered in each class:
– Español 3: Instruction and review of essential grammar
– Español 4: Review of essential grammar + reading (short texts such as poems and short stories)
– Español 5/Pre-AP: Last class for grammar review + pre-AP reading
– AP Lenguaje y Cultura: Assumes grammar mastery + focus on non-fiction reading, conversation and vocabulary
– AP Literatura: Assumes grammar mastery + reading of classics to contemporary fiction.
Most Amigos students reach the standards of placement for Español 5/Pre-AP at CRLS. The goal is for students to take AP Language and/or AP Literature during their time at CRLS. We have designed an assessment that will focus on grammar and reading for students wanting to take AP Language in the 9th grade. That way, they will know whether they master the necessary skills to be successful and thrive.
Sra. Butler-Rahman and Sra. Matos have met to discuss each student and have made their recommendations for placement.

Información importante sobre la transición a CRLS
Como parte de la iniciativa a nivel de distrito y de Amigos diseñada a identificar metas para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje para el año escolar 2021-2022 y asegurar que nuestr@s estudiantes tengan una transición exitosa a la escuela secundaria, queríamos ofrecerles un desglose de las clases de español en CRLS.
Nos hemos reunido con Janice Reeves-Rivera, Formadora de Currículo e Instrucción de Lenguas JK-12, para aclarar dudas sobre las clases de español en CRLS y los niveles de las mismas para poder ser más transparentes sobre por qué recomendamos la clase para su hij@. A partir de esta conversación, los criterios para las clases en CRLS son los siguientes:
– Español 3: Instrucción y repaso de gramática esencial
– Español 4: Repaso de gramática esencial + lectura (textos cortos como poesía y cuentos)
– Español 5/Pre AP: Último repaso gramatical + lecturas pre-AP
– AP Lenguaje y Cultura: Supone dominio de la gramática + enfoque en la no ficción, conversación y vocabulario
– AP Literatura: Supone dominio de la gramática + lectura de los clásicos de la literatura a escritor@s contemporáne@s.
La gran mayoría de estudiantes de Amigos alcanzan los estándares para situarlos en el nivel de Español 5/Pre-AP en CRLS. El objetivo es que l@s estudiantes puedan tomar las clases de AP Lenguaje y/o Literatura antes de graduarse de CRLS. Con el objetivo de situar a cada estudiante en el nivel más apropiado, hemos diseñado una evaluación que se enfocará en la gramática y la lectura para aquell@s estudiantes que quieran tomar AP Lenguaje durante el noveno grado. Así sabrán si dominan las destrezas necesarias para ser exitosos en la clase.
La Sra. Butler-Rahman y la Sra Matos se han reunido para hablar sobre cada estudiante y decidir qué clase le corresponde.

SNAP & WIC Help Families!
 The
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides money for
food to families in need, so there is less worry about food running out
at home. The Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC)
provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and
referrals to healthcare and other services, free of charge. Are you
worried that you won’t have enough food to last the whole month? Have
you skipped meals because there wasn’t enough food in your home? These
programs can help! From your friends at Cambridge in Motion, a
program of the Cambridge Public Health Department, and CPSD Food &
