Dear Families,

Earlier today, Superintendent Salim informed families and caregivers of a new mandate from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to open schools 5 days a week in April. As a JK-8 school, all grades will have the option to return 5 days a week on April 5th.

Here are key points you need to know:

  • Grades JK-8: Required to shift to full-time, in-person instruction five days per week effective Monday, April 5, 2021.
  • Families will continue to have the choice to opt-out of in-person learning and continue fully remote learning for their children.
  • The state requires that classrooms will be setup for at least 3 feet physical distancing and at least 6 feet physical distancing during mealtimes
  • All students and staff are required to wear masks and follow our established safety protocols.
  • Shifting to in-person may mean that your child changes teachers or classrooms
  • Depending on staffing, your child’s teacher may be in-person or teaching remotely, and “streaming in” to the classroom
  • You cannot request a specific teacher or classroom and you may not find out your child’s teacher or classroom configuration until schedules are finalized

What you need to do:

  • Current in-person students: No action needed. You child will be automatically enrolled in full-time, in-person learning.
  • Current REMOTE Families: Will receive a message and an enrollment form to request in-person learning. This form is due WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17th.
If we do not hear from you, your child will continue in remote learning.

Please understand that this is an incredible task to take on at this point in the year. We will need your understanding and flexibility as we work to quickly reorganize.

Earlier this week FOA launched an “Adopt an Educator” program to support staff in securing Covid vaccine appointments. We have almost 75 volunteers who have been working diligently and successfully in helping us get appointments. I don’t know how to thank you enough for these efforts and staff members are so appreciative. Many of us have appointments as early as next week. This is a great testament of how our core values of compassion, perseverance and integrity permeate all that we do. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Estimadas Familias,

¡GRACIAS! ¡GRACIAS! ¡GRACIAS!

Sinceramente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

From the Nurse/ De la enfermera

Hi Amigos Families,
This is a reminder to parents that if your child has seasonal allergies, please start giving them their allergy medicine before the season worsens with allergens. Some of the children are already exhibiting allergy symptoms.
Since allergies can mimic cold symptoms, your child may get sent home from school. We are still in a pandemic and the goal is to keep all students and staff well during this time.

Thank you,
Nurse Tamara Smith

Gracias,
Tamara Smith, Enfermera escolar

National Nutrition Month:
School Breakfast Rocks!

Cambridge in MotionDid you know that 8-12% of all school-aged kids, and as many as 20-30% of teens, skip breakfast? But study after study shows that kids who eat breakfast function better! They do better in school and have better concentration and more energy and are generally in better overall health than those who skip the morning meal. ALL school meals are FREE this year, so there has never been a better time to eat and enjoy school breakfast! Try all the tasty options this March: fruit and yogurt parfaits, whole wheat pancakes, cereal with fresh fruit, and more! From your friends at Cambridge in Motion, a program of the Cambridge Public Health Department, and CPSD Food & Nutrition Services.
