Dear Families,

If you have yet to do so, please take a moment to fill out the survey for learning model preference during the second semester TODAY. Your child will be enrolled in the same model as fall semester - which would be remote for most- should you not respond. If you missed our information session about the second semester and the expansion of in person learning, you can find the presentation and recorded meeting in my virtual office.

From the Technology Specialist
WasteNoTime is a Google Chrome extension designed to help students manage their time more efficiently. Through this extension we can define a school schedule and a list of restricted sites. We can also choose the maximum time we want a student to spend in restricted places, both during work hours and outside of it. Any access outside of that limit will be blocked. For example, we can decide that during school hours there is a maximum of 30 minutes per day of YouTube, and a maximum of 1 hour per day outside those hours.

This presentation contains several videos that explain how to install and configure the extension. If you need help, please email the School's Technology Specialist Mr. Gonzalez.

From the Counselor
All kids can benefit from a regular morning routine. Morning routines help build life-long habits—and habits make life SO much easier! Just like we, as adults, drink a glass of water in the morning, turn on the coffeemaker and read the news, kids need a plan to help them successfully navigate each morning. It also helps kids do better in school, get a great start to the day, and be more successful overall. The following resources are meant to give parents strategies to help mornings be more successful: How to Create Healthy Routines for Teens During the Age of Coronavirus and Establishing A Morning Routine That Actually Works.

AmigosLearning Highlights
This week’s learning highlight comes from our in-person JK class. One of our amazing kiddos made a model of a computer with her friends on Google Meet! Oh how times have changed!

FOA and Courageous Conversations

Both the Friends of Amigos group and their sub-group focused on racial equity for families are looking for members. Please consider joining these groups. We are looking for diverse families that represent all members of our amazing Amigos community. Requirements for participation: An Amigos School family member! Please let me know if you are interested.

From Our Student Reporter
Finally, we have another news report from our student journalist. She will be sharing more of the student perspective on the current state of learning as well as helping us get to know each other a bit more. Thank you, Lucy! Read the report >>

Have a great weekend and please remember that Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and there is no school.

Sincerely,

Estimadas Familias,

¡Gracias, Lucy! Read the report >>

Sinceramente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Harvard Square's "Fridge in the Square"
52 Church Street

Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) and its members, Y2Y, Trinity Property Management and The Sinclair (a division of AEG Worldwide) in partnership with Cambridge Community Fridge, installed Harvard Square’s first ‘Fridge in the Square”. The fridge is operated by neighbors, for neighbors serving Harvard Square as part of a national network of community fridges. With the principle 'take what you need, leave what you can', we aim to redistribute resources within our community to those in need on a hyper-local scale. Our work is solidarity, not charity. All are welcome to contribute to and use the community fridge.

If you would like to volunteer, please go to Sign Up Genius. There is a link to a Google form that volunteers checking on the fridge can fill out. The checklist explains what to clean and what to look for, such as expiration dates and prohibited items like alcohol and raw meat.

To find out more about “Fridge in the Square”, please email or find them on Instagram: @cambridgefridge.

Fight the Flu. Get Your Flu Shot!
Now more than ever, it is critically important to get a flu shot (also called seasonal flu vaccine). Flu season begins in the late fall and goes through winter, peaking between the months of December and February, but people can still get the flu as late as May.

Preventing the spread of flu will limit the need for flu-related medical appointments and hospitalizations, freeing up resources to help people with COVID-19. You can make an appointment for a flu shot with either your healthcare provider or local pharmacy.

Cambridge Health Alliance patients (12 - 22 years old) OR Cambridge Public Schools students (12 - 22 years old) can now receive a flu shot at the Teen Health Center located in Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Call 617.665.1548 to schedule an appointment.

Note: It's mandatory for CPS students to receive flu shots.
