Dear Families,

Happy New Year! Already 2021 is a year like no other. National events in
government and the evolution of COVID weigh heavily on our minds. At times like these, we need to dig deep and embrace our Amigos Community.
Please know that our Amigos Community is strong, we are here for one
another and we will support each other. Perseverance, Compassion and
Integrity- ¿Quienes somos? ¡¡Somos Amigos!!

In Person Families
In person learning will continue again starting Monday, January 11 at 8:40. The district, in collaboration with our Public Health Department, has determined that we are able to safely re-open school buildings for in-person learning. Please make time to review school safety protocols with your children before they return.

Also, the School Committee approved on Tuesday night the districts updated
COVID-19 health and safety framework, which is based on guidance in the
report, Schools and the Path to Zero: Strategies for Pandemic Resilience in
the Face of High Community Spread
. The foundation of this framework is the
idea that keeping schools open is the default position.
For all other students, remote learning will continue as usual.

Second Semester
The district is looking to expand in-person learning opportunities for students
in grades 4-8 starting on February 8, 2021. Due to the continued pandemic,
we will still be offering remote learning. However, if you would like your child
to attend school in a hybrid model, you may have that opportunity. Our plans
are evolving and will be impacted by staffing, enrollment and space. What
we currently planning for is the following:

  • Preschool - Grades 3: We will continue the current model, using criteria to prioritize students for in-person learning seats, four days per week. The shift to 3 foot distancing will allow us to combine some currently split in-person classrooms.
  • Grades 4 - 5: CPS will use criteria to prioritize students for in-person
learning seats, four days per week. This may mean students will participate in mixed classrooms, where educators are supporting both in-person and remote learners, or be assigned to a new teacher and classroom.
  • Grades 6 - 8: Students will be assigned to two cohorts, which will
    attend school in-person either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday.
In the case of capacity limits due to staffing, students will be
prioritized using district wide criteria. Students will be dismissed at
12:15, with grab-and-go meals, and remote learning continuing in the
    afternoon.
  • Wednesdays will remain a remote learning day for all students, to
    enable staff planning and collaboration

You should be receiving TODAY, FRIDAY, JANUARY 8, a survey where you
can specify your choice for either in-person or remote learning. The form is
due January 15. Please fill it out as soon as possible. Schools will notify
families on January 25 about their enrollment status and classroom
assignments.

Increase in Live Hours
On December 15, 2020, the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education (DESE) voted to mandate the number of synchronous learning
hours students have for grades 1-12. Depending on your child’s grade level,
you will see an increase in synchronous lessons per state mandate.

Next week is our monthly school council meeting on Wednesday, January 13
at 6:00PM. I will be discussing these different topics and answering questions
as best I can based on the information I have on that date.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Estimadas Familias,

Atentamente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora
