Dear Families

At our Amigos School Council meeting this past Wednesday, parent Catalina Rojas stepped into the co-chair role. As my co-chair, Catalina will help lead and organize our school council meetings and represent Amigos families along with other council members at different meetings and events around the city. Please join me in thanking Catalina for taking on this important role.

For the past four years we have held a Mulitcultural Night event that celebrates the wonderful diversity found in our community. This year we have not found a parent/guardian/family representative who is able to coordinate and organize this event which is usually held in March. If you are interested in organizing this school-wide event or have an alternative idea for an event, please contact me and FOA leadership to discuss it. Unfortunately, at this point in time, our plan is to cancel Multicultural Night.

On Friday, January 17 at 8AM I will host the first “Desayuno con la directora”
for this year. This is an informal time to come to the school, have some breakfast
and chat not only with me but other families and staff members. This first desayuno will be held in Spanish and focus on ideas/questions/concerns of Spanish-speaking families. The second desayuno will be held in English. I hope to see you here.

The Upper School Student Council has organized a Spirit Week for next week. Upper school students can participate in the following themes should they want to, however, please know that participation is completely optional. JK-5 students should not plan to participate unless you hear directly from their classroom teacher.

Monday = Twin Day
Tuesday = Culture Day (wear something that represents your culture)
Wednesday = Future Day (wear something that represents how you see yourself in the future)
Thursday = Color Day (Grade 6 - Green, Grade 7 - Blue, Grade 8 - Red)
Friday = Pajama Day

Last but not least, the school is hosting its Third Annual PARENT Dance on Friday, February 7! If it has been awhile since you’ve been out dancing, the Amigos Student Council invites you - our busy parents- to a night out without kids. DJ Battisimus is ready to honor your song requests and some upper school students have agreed to assist in childcare for siblings (in a limited capacity) here at the school while you dance the night away! All parents/guardians are invited not just those with upper school students. More information on time and how to RSVP coming shortly.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal

Estimadas Familias

Jueves = Día del color (Grado 6 - Verde, Grado 7 - Azul, Grado 8 - Rojo)
Viernes = Día del Pijama

Atentamente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
