Dear Families,

Thank you for such a wonderful lunch on Teacher Appreciation Day! We had so much delicious food to enjoy and truly appreciate it. Your kindness and consideration made everyone’s day special.

We have wonderful poets and writers at Amigos as you see in your student’s work and throughout the building. This week I want to congratulate our students who participated in the Cambridge Public Library and Cambridge Tree Project 21st Annual Poetry Contest. Students from across the grades submitted poems and we have many winners. The Poetry awards ceremony and reading will be held Wednesday, May 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall at the Main Library, 449 Broadway (next to Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School).

This year our winners are…

  • Sydney Dana, Third Place (tie), First Grade for “Enzo has a tiny head…”
  • Madeline Regal, Honorable Mention, Second Grade for “Book of the Bird”
  • Joshua Pite, First Place (tie), Fifth Grade for “Shoes”
  • Amanda Berlin, Second Place (tie), Fifth Grade for “Mixed Forever”
  • Camila Telemaque, First Place (tie), Sixth Grade for “Abuelita”
  • Augustina León Perdomo, Second Place (tie), Seventh Grade for “Un dia”/”One Day”
We also had poetry winners for the Harvard Coop Contest!
  • Matias Moore, 5th grade, 1st place for “Maps”
  • Hazel Koschwanez, 5th grade, 2nd place (tie) for “Pouncer for the Last Time”
  • Hunter (Finn) Hampshire, 5th grade, 2nd place for “Invective Against Broccoli”
  • Armando Levitt, 5th grade, 3rd place for “Ode to Bed”
  • Maria Mesa Morales, 1st grade, 1st place for “La ratita presumida”
  • Emzzo Rivas de los Santos, 1st grade, 2nd place for “La lluvia”

This weekend is the Ragnar Race and the Amigos Flash are running. We wish all of our runners a safe and fun run and thank them for their efforts! ¿QUIENES SOMOS? SOMOS AMIGOS!!

Gracias por un almuerzo tan maravilloso en el Día de Agradecimiento a l@s Maestr@s! Tuvimos tanta comida deliciosa para disfrutar y lo apreciamos de verdad. Su amabilidad y consideración han alegrado el día de todos.

Tenemos poetas y escritores maravillosos en Amigos como ustedes ven en el trabajo de sus estudiantes y por todo el edificio. Esta semana quiero felicitar a nuestr@s estudiantes que participaron el Certamen de Poesía de la Biblioteca Pública de Cambridge/ Premios de Poesía del Vigésimo primero Proyecto Anual del Árbol. Estudiantes de todos los grados enviaron poemas y tenemos muchos ganadores. La ceremonia de premiación y lectura de poemas será el miércoles, 22 de mayo a las 6:00 p.m. en el Salón de Conferencias de la Biblioteca Pública, 449 Broadway (junto a Cambridge Rindge y Latin High School).

All parents must fill out a CORI form at least 2 weeks in advance before chaperoning field trips or volunteering in the school.

Councillor Sumbul Siddiqui, Mayor Marc McGovern, and the Cambridge Employee Diversity Committee invite you to the 2nd Annual Cambridge Community Iftar in celebration of the month of Ramadan. The Iftar is the daily sunset meal to break the day’s fasting during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and one observed as holy by those of Muslim faith worldwide. Ramadan began this year on May 5th and will end on the evening of June 4th, 2019.

Pinkalicious and Peterrific!
WGBH is looking for kids for short video segments for the PBS television series Pinkalicious and Peterrific, an animated show about creativity. WGBH needs kids aged 7 to 9 who are interested in participating in activities relating to music, theater, dance, and the visual arts.

CitySprouts Summer Youth Internship at the Cambridge Upper Schools

July 2 - August 9
Monday through Friday | 9AM - 1PM
All 11 - 14 year olds are eligible. There is no cost for the internship program. Have fun gardening, cooking, science activities and learning about the environment. Students who complete the program will receive a $150 stipend (must be available for the entire 6 weeks). Applications have been sent home with students. They are due on May 3.
