Message from Principal Chad Leith

Dear Morse School Families and Caregivers,

marathon kidsMany thanks to those of you who participated in or supported last week’s First Annual Morse Marathon! Students and teachers from our Special Start program all the way up through our 5th Grade classrooms participated, with some children running or walking for over 20 laps (over 5 miles on our quarter-mile course!). We are grateful to our P.E. teachers Phil Fousek and Ben Hechler and our parent organizers Thalia Krakower and Mary Walsh for helping to get the Morse Marathon off the ground. Thanks also to the many parents and staff members who volunteered to help make the event a success by running, serving water, or simply encouraging our students to have fun and get moving! The Morse Marathon also helped to raise funds for the Friends of Morse, which supports all of our children by offsetting the costs of materials, field trips, and guest speakers who help make learning at the Morse School fun and engaging.

The Friends of Morse (FOM) is currently in the process of planning our next fun community event, the Morse Spring Fun Fair, which will take place on Sunday, May 19th from 11AM-3PM! The group needs more volunteers to set up, help run games and monitor activities, and clean up after the event is over. If you can sign up to donate even a small amount of your time on the 19th, your support would be much appreciated! Please sign up on the oversized sheet in our Main Lobby or reach out directly to FOM officers Shannon Finley ([email protected]) or Joanne Jang ([email protected]). Please also consider joining us at tomorrow evening’s Friends of Morse monthly meeting (Thursday, May 9th from 6:30-8PM in the Morse School Library). Your voice and participation are important to maintaining this group’s important work at our school!

A Note from Nurse Susan:
This spring has been tough for anyone with seasonal allergies. Some kids are especially sensitive to the pollen, and the symptoms can distract them from their school work. The health office cannot supply allergy medications (antihistamines, eye drops, nasal sprays). If your child needs medication for his or her allergies, make sure that you give the medication before s/he leaves for school. These medications work best when given regularly. Please do not give your child Benadryl to relieve allergy discomfort. If your child feels especially uncomfortable, talk with your doctor or nurse practitioner about the best way to treat allergy discomfort. Please let Nurse Susan know if you have any questions or concerns.

Please Share Your Feedback! - The Spring 2019 Family Survey
If you have not yet had a chance to do so, please take a few minutes to complete this year’s family survey. Your feedback will help me and the Morse School staff better understand your perspectives about our school’s strengths and areas for growth as we prepare for the 2019-2020 school year: The survey, which can be accessed by following the link below, takes around 10 minutes to complete and can be taken on your cell phone, tablet or computer. Take the survey >>

Thank you,

Chad Leith
