Message from Principal Chad Leith

Dear Members of the Morse School Community,

We are only one week away from our very first Morse Marathon, a community-building event, a fundraiser, and a great way to get active! The Morse Marathon will take place next Friday, May 3rd from 9-10:30AM at Magazine Beach Park. After making their way over the Memorial Drive overpass, students will gather in the center of Magazine Beach Park for warm-up exercises led by Morse School P.E. teachers Phil Fousek and Ben Hechler. The run will start with our youngest participants (who will be accompanied by our 5th graders), followed by out other grade-level classes. As participants finish the Marathon, they will be able take part in line dancing! There is no set number of laps which participants need to complete. However, we will help students keep track of their laps so that they can share their accomplishment with friends and family members who have pledged support on the orange pledge sheets that are going home in their folders! There will be a water station at the park and a police detail to ensure safety. Staff members and families are encouraged to join the Morse Marathon and run or walk. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact parent organizers Mary Walsh or Thalia Krakower.

Welcome Mosammat Khanam and Tirhas Beyene!
mosammat and tirhasI am very pleased to introduce Mosammat Khanam and Tirhas Beyene, who have joined our team as lunch and recess paraprofessionals. In addition to helping us provide a calm and clean space for our students to enjoy their lunch, Ms. Khanam and Ms. Beyene will also be participating in outdoor recess. With nearly 300 students passing through the cafeteria each day, Ms. Khanam and Ms. Beyene will also be trying to learn many new names. Please encourage your children to introduce themselves to these new members of our school community!

May 8th Principal’s Coffee
Please join me for coffee and informal conversation on Wednesday, May 8th between 8:30-9:15AM in the Morse School Library. This will be an opportunity to connect with other parents, ask questions, and share your thoughts about ways we might improve the experiences of children, families and staff members as we prepare for the 2019-2020 school year. If you are unable to stop by but would like to share feedback in person, please consider making an appointment to chat in my office. You may contact me directly. Thank you!

5/1 Parent Workshop on Helping Kids Navigate
Digital Tools

Please remember that our re-scheduled workshop on helping kids navigate digital tools will take place next Wednesday, May 1st from 6-7:30PM. As I’ve mentioned in my previous messages, the workshop is aimed at providing Morse School parents and caregivers with tips, tricks, and resources for troubleshooting some common questions and concerns about our children and their use of social media, cell phones, and other digital tools such as TV, internet, and video games. Pizza and childcare will be provided. If you are interested in participating, please RSVP no later than Tuesday, April 30th by following the link below:

go green challenge
Go Green Challenge!
Do you like to recycle? Reuse? Do you turn out lights when you leave the room and bring your own bag to the store? Every “green” action you take makes a difference. Thank you! Elementary classrooms are joining in the Go Green Challenge by completing a worksheet sharing ways they help the environment (check it out here). We also made a Go Green at Home Challenge that you might like to do together outside of school! Learn more >>
