Dear Families,
This past week we dedicated our All School Assembly to Black History Month. Upper school students from our Black Student Union and the Black Lives Matters service-learning group hosted a wonderful event that celebrated our heroes as well as encouraged advocacy and social justice. As always, it was amazing to see our young people honoring our idols and heroes via poetry and music.
The Amigos Student Council has planned a Spirit Week for February 11-15th. Students and staff are invited to participate in the following events, however, please know that this is not mandatory and you don’t need to go out and buy anything!
Monday will be Pajama Day, Tuesday will be twin day, Wednesday will be Sports Day, Thursday is Colors Day and Friday will be an Amigos T-shirt/School Colors day.
We will have our third session of Transformative Teachers/Parents on Wednesday, February 13th from 6-8PM. We hope you will join us as we explore how inquiry, curiosity and empathy play a role in how we interact with one another. It is not too late to participate!
More and more people are having difficulty disconnecting from texting, social media and games. If it is hard for us as adults, imagine how hard it is for young people. More and more our disciplinary issues - particularly in the upper school - are also related to incidents occurring online or via social media. Most times these events do not even take place during school hours, yet their impact is felt throughout the school day. Without appropriate guidance and skills, utilizing social media can become a stressful and potentially unsafe communication platform for young people. With this in mind, our Technology Teacher, Mr. Gonzalez, has created some fantastic guidelines and tips for families. I encourage you to spend some time reading them and thinking about what will work best for you and your children.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Estimadas familias,
Atentamente,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora

What are you doing after school this winter?
The Winter/Spring Resource Guide, compiled by the Middle School Network, gathers together the MANY options for outside of school opportunities for middle school students (grades 6-8). It includes many year long programs (that young people join at all different points of the year) and a lot of unique programming for just Winter and Spring: sports, media, academic help, leadership and even some early job opportunities for older kids! To see about signing up and getting started in any of these opportunities, contact Mariel Santos Dugan.
