Dear Families,

It was a wonderfully busy week here at Amigos! I enjoyed seeing parents at the Kindergarten Cantata and it was fantastic to hear all the students singing. I especially loved hearing them sing our Amigos School Song since that is my personal favorite. Superintendent Salim was even able to stop by and enjoy the cantata for a bit before he visited classrooms. As always, we are grateful for our community partner, The Pentecostal Tabernacle, for sharing their performance hall with us.

We had a very moving School Spirit Assembly today! The theme of our assembly was “Honor our bilingualism”. Students from all grade levels wrote essays about why being bilingual is important to them and there were powerful poems, presentations and posters shared during the assembly. Please don’t forget to have a conversation with your child about why bilingualism is important! Our students work really hard every day to make our school mission a reality.

Early this week I received notice that the city would like to hold an opening ceremony for our new playground. Thus, on December 5th from 3-4pm there will be a brief event for our city neighbors and dignitaries to celebrate our fabulous new space. Please come and join us if you are able. There will be treats and hot cocoa on hand!

I’d like to remind everyone that with the opening of the new playground, we have returned to our standard protocol for entry and exit into the building.

  1. Between the hours of 7:30-3:15, all visitors are asked to use the main entrance to the building for both entry and exit. Please ring the buzzer, state your name and who you are at the school to see.
  2. Once you are buzzed in, please proceed to the main office to obtain a visitor’s pass. This protocol is aligned with the district protocol, which reads as follows:
Every visitor entering a Cambridge Public School during school hours is required to check in at the Safety Desk/ Main Office at the Main Entrance. After signing in, stating whom they wish to visit, the purpose of their visit and showing proof of identity a visitor’s pass will be issued.
  3. Visitors will be asked to wear the visitor’s pass while they are in the building and return the pass and sign out when they leave.
  4. No doors in the building should ever be propped open or left unlocked.
  5. Door # 8 (the door on the Magazine Street side) will now serve as the entry and exit for all after school students, staff and families. Otherwise, side doors are not to be used for exit or entry.
  6. The front doors will be locked at 3:15 and entry into the building for after school staff and families will only be through door #8.
  7. Once children have been dismissed they should not re-enter the building unless they are participating in an after school activity.
  8. Please be aware of who might be coming in through the door behind you.
With the safety and security of all our staff and students in mind, please adhere to these guidelines and remind one another of their importance.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal

Estimadas familias,

Sinceramente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora
