Dear Families,

I want to take some time today to invite you to participate in our parent professional development series. Starting on October 10, we will be working with trainers from the Ethics Center at MIT. There will be 5 sessions throughout the year during which we will look at the importance of seeing beyond our differences to our common humanity. In doing this work, we aspire to gain a deeper acceptance of the cultural diversity within our community. All parents are invited to participate, however, due to the progressive nature of this program, we ask that parents commit to all five sessions. This work connects not only to our school improvement goals related to cultural proficiency but also to our family engagement goals. While I recognize that this is a significant time commitment on your part, I do believe this will help us grow together as a community. Please RSVP here if you can attend all 5 sessions. Another of our goals this year is to continue improving two-way communication/information between home and school. In light of this goal, our family liaison, Lillian Rater, will be offering office hours. Her office hours will be by appointment on Tuesdays and Fridays 9:00 am-11:00 am. You can contact her at [email protected] or at 617-349-6315. If these office hours conflict with your schedule, she will work to find an alternative time to meet with you.

Estimadas Familias,

Quiero tomar un momento hoy para invitarles a participar en nuestra serie de desarrollo profesional para familias. A partir del 10 de octubre, trabajaremos con capacitadores del Centro de Ética del MIT. Habrá 5 sesiones a lo largo del año durante las cuales veremos cómo debemos ver más allá de nuestras diferencias hacia nuestra humanidad común. Mediante este trabajo aspiramos el obtener una mayor aceptación de la diversidad cultural en nuestra comunidad. Todos los padres, madres y guardianes están invitados a participar. Sin embargo, debido a la naturaleza progresiva de este programa, les pedimos a los interesados en participar que se comprometan con las cinco sesiones. Este trabajo conecta no sólo con nuestras metas de mejora de la escuela relacionadas con el dominio cultural sino también con nuestras metas de participación familiar. Si bien reconozco que este es un compromiso de tiempo significativo de su parte, creo que esto nos ayudará a crecer juntos como comunidad. Otro de nuestros objetivos este año es continuar mejorando la comunicación / información bidireccional entre el hogar y la escuela. Con este objetivo en mente, nuestra enlace familiar, Lillian Rater, ofrecerá horas de oficina. Éstas serán por cita previa los martes y viernes de 9:00 a.m. a 11:00 p.m. Pueden contactarla en [email protected] o al 617-349-6315. Si estas horas de oficina confligen con su horario, ella trabajará para encontrar un momento alternativo para reunirse con ustedes.
