Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

This week, our 5th graders participated in the Ballroom Dance Performance. We had 100% attendance and Juliana Iglesias-Hernandez and Claudio Gusmao Gonzalez earned the ballroom dancing character award for their outstanding attitude and promotion of ballroom dance. We celebrated our 3rd Annual “Noche de Galería” on Tuesday thanks to Ms. Annette and all the amazing student art she helped guide and present. While on Thursday, our first graders continued the poetry celebration with their own “Poetry Cafe” and breakfast.

The Spanish language book fair will take place at Amigos on May 22 and 23! It will be held on the stage of the gym at Amigos on Tuesday, May 22 from 8:30AM to 3PM and Wednesday, May 23 from 8:30AM to 6PM. Students should ask their teachers which day they have signed up for. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Amigos, but parents are encouraged to volunteer to help with set-up, sales, or breakdown. FOA will also have a donation box set up at the fair for those would like to make a monetary contribution to FOA's fund to provide books for those students who may not be able to purchase one on their own.

The district launched its first annual CPS Family Survey. The online survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and your feedback will contribute to our ongoing efforts to learn, improve, and support better outcomes for all students. I encourage you to share your opinions with us.

Finally, a big THANK YOU to our families who participated in the Ragnar Race. Amigos had a great representation!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal

Estimadas Familias,

Atentamente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Survey

Got feedback?
We can't wait to hear from you! CPS is conducting our first annual Family Survey, and we hope to hear from you by June 14th!

If you haven't already received an email or text message, or it's gotten lost in your inbox, check out our Family Survey page and click on your family's school(s). You can also find questions & answers about the survey, view our outreach plan, and even make comments on ways to improve our outreach strategy.

For those who don't have a good way to take it from home, watch for survey-taking stations at events at school. We value your feedback and hope to learn and improve based on what we hear from you.

The survey is part of our continuous improvement efforts, a key component of our CPS District Plan

Clock

Not enough hours in the day?
As part of our ongoing efforts to learn and improve as a school district, Cambridge Public Schools has identified a frequently-cited obstacle: time.

Please join with us in discussing the recommendations of a joint report from the Cambridge Education Association and CPS Administration, which proposes extending the length of the school day.

Beginning with these school-based conversations, and continuing with a broad community process in Fall 2018, the Superintendent will develop recommendations for any potential changes by Winter 2018-19.

Learn more about this process on the CPS website. Upcoming discussions are listed below, many of which have been scheduled for a regular meeting of School Councils. There will be more opportunities to contribute your thoughts and ideas over the coming months. Or, feel free to email us.
