National Pi Day
People were just waiting to get free pie on national Pi Day, March 14 (3/14/15). Well, in room E5 at the Morse School, kids made Pikus and Pi shirts. Pikus are haiku poems about Pi! A haiku has three lines, the first line has five syllables, and the second seven and the last line has five. One kid in E5, Deven says, “It’s awesome we get to make Pi shirts, and it’s lots of fun!” You can tell the excitement is going around in the E5 classroom. Read more >>

Digital Learning Day at Morse
Miss Marissa’s class put on their computer programming hats on and programmed KIBO the robot. To program KIBO, students had to choose and arrange different action blocks such as move forward, shake, or beep. When they had their instructions (algorithm) complete they scanned the blocks and watched KIBO follow their directions. Read more >>

Grade 5 Ballroom Dance Showcase
On Tuesday, March 10th, the fifth grade had a ballroom dancing performance, held at the Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School. There were five different elementary schools there to perform the Meringue, Tango, Swing, Waltz, and Salsa. The first dance was the Meringue; to my surprise everyone did wonderful and barely made any mistakes. We put our heart in every move we did, as did all of the students from other schools. Dance in Schools
This month some our classrooms are working with Dance in the Schools Program. This program integrates movement and dance with the academic curriculum. Dance in the Schools develops children’s ability to focus in school, think creatively and cooperatively, innovate and problem-solve, while being physically active. Classroom participation have been learning about characters, plot, and emotions by moving and dancing.
