Dear Families,

It has been an exciting first week at Amigos! The beginning of the school year is dedicated to establishing the routines and relationships that will support our community in moving forward positively. Classes have been creating norms and reviewing expectations and, more than anything, having fun learning. We also had our first fire drill on the first day of Kindergarten!

This week teachers will have spent time reviewing our building-wide behavior expectations. Our overarching guidelines are 1. Respect yourself 2. Respect others and 3. Respect property. You can see our behavior matrix here and hanging on the wall on the left as you walk up the front stairs. Please take a moment to review these expectations with your child/ren.

With the safety and security of all our students in mind, I want to offer a review of our arrival and dismissal procedures.

Arrival
School hours are 8:55AM – 2:55PM and classes start at 8:55. Any student arriving after 8:55 will need to check in at the main office. Students may arrive as early as 7:30AM and report to the cafeteria where the before school program is held. At 8:10AM, the gym or the outside park areas are open with supervision for grades 1 - 8. On rainy and cold days 1st graders will stay in the cafeteria. All Kindergarten students must go directly to the cafeteria if they arrive before 8:40 and directly to their classrooms after 8:40. The first bell rings at 8:40AM whereby all students are dismissed from the cafeteria, park or gym to their homeroom. Parents of students in Kindergarten and 1st grade can accompany their children to the classrooms. We ask that parents of students in grades 2 -8 say goodbye at the main entrance.

Dismissal
At 2:55 the dismissal bell for students who walk home rings, walkers in JK-1 stay in their classrooms and their adult can meet them there. Walkers in grades 2 and 3 will go to the cafeteria and their adult can meet them there. Walkers in grades 4-8 leave and walk themselves home or meet their adult at the front of the building. All students who ride a bus will remain in their classrooms until their bus is called at which point they will go directly to the bus. Please note that the school district recently sent home a transportation survey. This is not a permission slip. If you need to make special arrangements for your child, please contact the main office.

¡Ha sido una emocionante primera semana en Amigos! El comienzo del año escolar está dedicado a establecer las rutinas y relaciones que apoyarán a nuestra comunidad a avanzar de manera positiva. Las clases han estado creando normas y revisando las expectativas y, más que nada, aprendiendo de manera divertida. ¡También tuvimos nuestro primer simulacro de incendio en el primer día de Kindergarten!

Esta semana los maestros habrán dedicado tiempo a revisar nuestras expectativas de comportamiento para el edificio. Nuestras expectativas generales son 1. Respetarse a sí mismo 2. Respetar a los demás y 3. Respetar la propiedad. Ustedes pueden ver nuestra matriz de comportamiento aquí y colgada en la pared a la izquierda cerca de la puerta principal. Por favor, tomen un momento para revisar estas expectativas con su hijo/a.

Con la seguridad de todos nuestros estudiantes en mente, quiero ofrecer un repaso de nuestros procedimientos de llegada y salida.

Llegada
Las horas escolares son de 8:55AM - 2:55PM y las clases comienzan a las 8:55. Cualquier estudiante que llegue después de las 8:55 tendrá que registrarse en la oficina principal. Los estudiantes pueden llegar tan pronto como las 7:30AM y dirigirse a la cafetería donde está el Programa Pre-horario Escolar. A las 8:00AM en el gimnasio o en el parque hay supervisión para los grados 1-8. Durante los días lluviosos o muy fríos, los niños de primer grado se quedarán en la cafetería. Todos los estudiantes de Kindergarten tienen que ir directamente a sus salones. El primer timbre suena a las 8:40 AM, hora en que todos los alumnos se dirigirán a sus salones de la cafetería, parque o gimnasio. Los padres de Kindergarten y primer grado pueden acompañar a sus hijos/as al salón de clases. Les pedimos a los padres de estudiantes en los grados 2 - 8 que se despidan de sus hijos/as en la puerta principal.

Salida
A las 2:55 suena la campana de salida para los estudiantes que caminan a casa, los caminantes en JK-1 permanecen en sus aulas y su adulto puede reunirse con ellos allí. Los caminantes en los grados 2 y 3 irán a la cafetería y su adulto podrá buscarlos allí. Los caminantes en los grados 4-8 salen y caminan a casa o encuentran a su adulto en la parte delantera del edificio. Todos los estudiantes que viajan en autobús permanecen en sus aulas hasta que se les llame su autobús y en ese momento van directamente al autobús. Tengan en cuenta, por favor, que el distrito recientemente envió a casa una encuesta sobre el transporte escolar. Ésta no es un formulario de permiso. Si necesitan hacer arreglos especiales para sus hijos/as, por favor pónganse en contacto con la oficina principal.
