Dear Families,

Shortly, the staff and I will begin working on classroom placement lists for next year. As always, I want to remind families that due to the complexity of this task and the need to have balanced, heterogeneous classrooms, we cannot take parent requests.

The classroom placement process involves consideration of all students’ strengths and needs. We make every attempt to develop classrooms that are diverse, inclusive and balanced. Our goal is to create groups of students that can become communities of learners and excel in the work they do together. Factors we take into consideration include:

  • language proficiency in English and Spanish
  • academic needs
  • socio-cultural factors
  • socio-economic factors
  • personality and learning styles
  • peer relationships

Keeping these factors in mind, we are a small school and there are only two choices for placement at each grade level. If for some reason there is compelling information that I am not already aware of, that should be considered with other placement factors, please submit it to me in writing by May 1 for consideration. Otherwise, please know that we want the best groupings possible and will be making decisions with every child’s best interests in mind.

Progress reports and conferences are coming up after April vacation. Upper school parents, please keep in mind that teachers will be updating their grades in ASPEN this week and next in anticipation of the upcoming reports. While grades are input into the system, they will appear to fluctuate. I recommend waiting until grades are finalized on Thursday, April 13th, to view the finalized reports via your ASPEN account.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Estimadas familias,

Atentamente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
