Dear Families,

Happy New Year! I hope that all of you had a wonderful winter vacation and are looking forward to 2017.

To start out our year, I would like to introduce to you three new faculty members who will be joining our Amigos community. First, Kory Bolgarski, will be joining our Special Education team. Mr. Bolgarski comes to us from the Tobin Montessori School in Cambridge. He studied at Central Connecticut State University and has a Master’s degree in Special Education from Simmons College. When he is not teaching, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two young boys.

Second, Allie Meek joins us as our new upper school drama teacher. Ms. Meek has a BA in English and Theatre from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s degree in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre from Emerson College. Aside from working at Amigos, she also teaches at the Watertown Children’s Theatre and the Huntington Theatre Company.

Finally, Keel Franklin is our new Technical Services Technician. Mr. Franklin has been in the IT field for over 20 years. Initially he had his own computer repair shop. Later he began working at the HelpDesk for Cambridge Public Schools. He is now happy to be the technician for both the Amigos and Morse Schools.

As you may have already heard, we had a modified shelter-in-place yesterday after an attempted robbery occurred in Central Square. Students had a typical day except for the fact that recess was inside. As the school department stated previously, there was no apparent threat to any Cambridge Public Schools, but out of an abundance of caution students and staff stayed inside until dismissal. Student and faculty safety and security is always paramount at Amigos.

¡Feliz año nuevo! Espero hayan tenido unas vacaciones de invierno maravillosas y que estén anticipando el 2017.

Para comenzar el año, quisiera presentarles a tres nuevos miembros de la facultad que se unen a nuestra comunidad de Amigos. Primero, Kory Boglarski, se unirá a nuestro equipo de Educación Especial. Estudió en Central Connecticut State University y tiene una maestría en educación Especial de Simmons College. Cuando no está enseñando, Mr. Boglarski disfruta de pasar tiempo al aire libre con su esposa y dos hijos.

Segundo, Allie Meek es nuestra nueva maestra de Teatro para la escuela intermedia. Ms. Meek tiene un bachillerato en Inglés y en Teatro de University of Rhode Island y una maestría en Educación y Aplicación Teatral de Emerson College. A parte de enseñar en Amigos, también enseña en Watertown Children’s Theatre y en Huntington Theatre Company.

Finalmente, Keel Franklin es nuestro nuevo técnico en tecnología. Mr. Franklin ha trabajado más de 20 años en el campo de la tecnología. Inicialmente, tuvo su propio negocio de reparación de computadoras. Luego, trabajó como ayudante en el HelpDesk en Cambridge Rindge and Latin. Ahora, está muy contento de ser el técnico tanto para las escuelas Amigos y Morse

Como habrán escuchado, ayer tuvimos que poner en pie un estado de refugio modificado después de un atentado a robo en Central Square. Los estudiantes tuvieron un día típico con la excepción del recreo que fue dentro del edificio. Tal y como declaró el Departamento de Educación, ninguna Escuela Pública de Cambridge fue amenazada, sin embargo hubo abundante precaución manteniendo a los estudiantes y a los docentes dentro del edificio hasta la hora de salida. La seguridad de nuestro estudiantes y facultad es siempre primordial en Amigos.
