Estimadas familias,
Atentamente,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Dear Families,
It has been a busy time here at Amigos. We ended last week with our JK-4 Heritage Concert. I enjoyed seeing so many of our families and, of course, the students were fantastic. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Hamel and all the staff and parents who helped make this concert a success! On Thursday, our 4th grade classes held a breakfast and celebrated student writing in English and Spanish and finally, our JK-K students had their first “Cantata” of the year.
Now, the 7th and 8th graders are busy preparing for their interactive "Home to Home" presentation next week, inspired by their visit to the Doctors Without Borders exhibit in October and the presentation of Dr. Theresa Betancourt (Amigos parent) and her team from the School of Public Health. Students are exploring the question, What defines a sense of home? through the testimonies of immigrants and refugees. They will be presenting multiple experiences of refugees and immigrants with a focus on resources for survival, obstacles faced, navigation of different cultures, factors of attraction and expulsion, and global, federal and municipal politics. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, December 21, in the Amigos Gymnatorium from 6:30 - 8PM. Given the intense and mature subject to be explored, we invite families of 4th grade students and above to visit the exhibition.
I also want to invite you to take a peek at our “We were teens too!” board on the wall by the ramp going up to the gym. It is a fun opportunity to get to know more about our school staff and play our “Three Truths” game.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero
