Queridas madres, queridos padres y encargados:
¡Nos complacemos en presentarles el primer boletín del año escolar para la Escuela Intermedia de Amigos! Espero que puedan disfrutar de una gama de artículos sobre los acontecimientos en el sexto, séptimo y octavo grado, los logros de nuestros estudiantes maravillosos y una serie de novedades emocionantes. Es un año de colaboraciones nuevas, proyectos innovadores, visitas de expertos en su campo y viajes inolvidables. We are thrilled to share our first Amigos Upper School newsletter of the year! I hope you enjoy this range of articles on 6th, 7th and 8th grade events, the accomplishments of our wonderful students and some exciting news. This will be a year of new collaboration, innovative projects, visits by experts in their field and unforgettable trips. 6th Grade: Farm School / 6to grado: La Escuela Agrícola
Every year in the 6th grade, we visit the Farm School in Athol, Massachusetts, thanks to the generous funding from the Friends of Amigos. It is a transformative experience for many students, creating lasting memories that they take with them through the year. Read more >>

6th Grade: Service Learning / 6 to grado: Aprendizaje en servicio

Service learning is an opportunity for students to take the skills and content knowledge they are developing in their classes and apply it to addressing real-world issues. Our service learning class in 6th grade has started developing project ideas in three student-selected areas: social justice, food access, and climate change.
El aprendizaje en servicio es una oportunidad para que los estudiantes tomen las destrezas y el conocimiento que están desarrollando en sus clases y lo apliquen a resolver asuntos del mundo real. Nuestra clase de Aprendizaje en servicio del 6to grado ha empezado a desarrollar ideas para proyectos en tres áreas seleccionadas por los estudiantes: justicia social, acceso a la comida y cambio climático.

El domingo 30 de octubre celebramos la tradición mexicana del Día de los Muertos en el Museo Peabody de Harvard y aplaudimos las esculturas que crearon los estudiantes de octavo para este evento. Sunday, October 30th, we celebrated the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead at the Peabody Museum of Harvard. We also congratulated our eighth graders who made sculptures for this event. Read more >>
Kerstin Forsberg’s Visit

On October 7th, for Hispanic Heritage Month, the Amigos School was very fortunate to have Peruvian marine biologist Kerstin Forsberg visit and speak with each class in the upper school. Kerstin came along with Elizabeth Stephenson from the Marine Conservation Action Fund and Corrine Steever from the Education Outreach Department of the New England Aquarium. Read more >>

Este año, tenemos un periodo adicional muy emocionante. Los lunes y viernes, los estudiantes tienen un periodo de salón hogar extendido ¡hasta las 9:25AM! Este tiempo está dedicado a fomentar la comunidad, compartir y divertirnos como grupo. This year, we have an exciting new period in our day. On Monday and Friday mornings, students have extended homeroom until 9:25AM! This is a time for community building, for sharing, for playing games. How can we tell that a reaction has taken place? How can we model what goes on at the molecular level when new substances are formed?
