Dear Families,

We had another wonderful week here at Amigos! Teachers have begun digging into curriculum and students are easing into a routine of learning and scholarship. Please remember to join us on September 22 from 6-8 pm for our Back to School Open House, so you can hear about all the great things happening in the school too!

This week we started our Response to Intervention (RTI) screening period. During this period, all students will be assessed in Math and Literacy as per the Cambridge Public Schools district wide plan. These screeners inform our instruction and monitor student progress and growth. They also help us to target the specific needs of each individual student’s learning.

We dedicated our first Amigos School Council (ASC) meeting this past Wednesday to a forum titled “Supporting your Child with the Dual Language Experience". It was great to see new families and offer them the opportunity to meet with ASC Members and ask questions about the school. Don’t worry if you missed the meeting, our ASC members are always happy to answer questions.

This week we also welcomed our new special education teacher, Ms. Linda Santiago. Ms. Santiago comes to us from the Chelsea Public Schools where she worked as an inclusion teacher and special educator. She has a BA from Rutgers University and an MA in Special Education from Wheelock College. Please join me in giving her a warm welcome to our Amigos community.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero

Please note: Teachers have morning preparation time until the first bell at 8:40. Students arriving before 8:40 should wait outside (grades 1-8) or in the cafeteria (grades Jk-2).

Estimadas familias,
