This week I thought I would share with you the thoughts of U.S. Acting Education Secretary John B. King Jr. who recently addressed the National Association of Bilingual Education. In his address he discussed the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and how it affects the work we do in immersion schools. King said, "Under ESSA, states have the opportunity to broaden the definition of educational excellence to ensure that it is well-rounded and incorporates biliteracy and multiliteracy". This is exciting news and I am hopeful that there will be positive outcomes for two-way immersion and diversity within our educational system in general.

Esta semana me gustaría compartir con ustedes los pensamientos del Secretario de la Educación de EE.UU., John B. King Jr., quien recientemente dirigió unas palabras a la Asociación Nacional de la Educación Bilingüe. En su discurso, discutió el Acta “Qué todo estudiante tenga éxito” (Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) y cómo ésta afecta el trabajo que hacemos en escuelas de inmersión. King dijo, "Bajo ESSA (por sus siglas en inglés), los estados tienen la oportunidad de ampliar la definición de excelencia académica para asegurar que es completa y que incorpora lectoescritura bilingüe y multilingüe". Estas son noticias muy emocionantes y tengo la esperanza de que traerá resultados positivos para la doble inmersión y la diversidad en nuestro sistema educativo en general.
