The Massachusetts School Library Association has named Amy Short, Director for Library Media Services for Cambridge (MA) Public Schools, as a recipient of the 2019 Peggy Hallisey Lifetime Achievement Award. This award celebrates Ms. Short's exemplary commitment to the service of students and 21st century learning and to the advancement of school libraries.
Ms. Short has served in a variety of positions. Before directing the Library Media Services in Cambridge, she was Director of Library Media Services for Boston Public Schools; High School Librarian in schools in New York and at Westford Academy in Westford, Massachusetts; Reference Librarian at Boston Public Library; Adjunct Library Media Instructor at Cambridge College; and Adjunct Instructor in the Masters of Education program at Antioch University. Amy has served in a variety of roles on the Executive Board of the Massachusetts School Library Association (MSLA). Amy has been the MSLA Delegate to the American Association of School Libraries (AASL), Secretary of AASL's Supervisor Section, and a Task Force Member of two AASL national task forces - AASL Status of Staffing of School Libraries (2014) and Scheduling Position Statement Task Force (2018/19).
Ms. Short will receive this award on Sunday, March 31, 2019 during the MSLA Awards Banquet at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center in Framingham, Massachusetts. This awards dinner is a part of the 2019 MSLA Annual Conference, “School Libraries are for Everyone.”
