Cambridge School Committee, Superintendent Search Screening and Interview Team Announce Three Finalists for New CPS Superintendent

School Committee members will conduct site visits to candidates’ districts during the week of September 15, community members will be invited to opportunities to meet the candidates during the week of September 22, public interviews will be held on September 30 & October 1.

The School Committee is expected to vote on October 6.

Following a year-long, national search process, the Cambridge School Committee announced today that it has selected three candidates as finalists for the role of Superintendent of Schools. Finalists were recommended based on top choices made by Interview Team members, composed of School Committee members, CPS educators, CPS caregivers, community members, and a CRLS student representative. The School Committee conducted the national search in partnership with The Equity Process, an organization that supports school systems by coaching senior and school-based leaders, delivering high-quality professional development, and facilitating executive searches that prioritize diverse and highly qualified candidates, through advancing equity-focused hiring practices, and helping schools build and assess inclusive systems that improve outcomes for students and families.

The three finalists are:

  • Lourenço Garcia, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent, Revere MA
  • David Murphy, Interim Superintendent, Cambridge, MA
  • Magaly Sanchez, Chief Family Advancement Officer, Boston, MA

Finalists were selected from a pool of seven semifinalist candidates.

Upcoming Events and Interviews

  • Week of August 20: Additional listening sessions with invited stakeholder groups.
  • Week of September 15: School Committee members conduct site visits to candidate’s school districts.
  • Week of September 22: Cambridge community members will be invited to opportunities to meet the candidates.
  • September 30: Finalist interviews with the full School Committee.
  • October 1: Finalist interviews with the full School Committee.
  • October 6: School Committee vote.

Finalist interviews will be broadcast live and will be open to the public, though public comment will not be included.
