Registering for CPS Upper Schools

To Register for Grades 6 - 8:

  1. Make sure your student satisfies the age, residency, and health requirements
  2. Complete the JK-8 Registration Form
  3. Submit it in person along with all required forms and documents to the Student Registration Center
In addition, students applying to the Amigos School must also take a language test at the Amigos School to ensure that they meet proficiency requirements in Spanish. The Student Registration Center facilitates this test for your child.

Please note: Vassal Lane Upper School is slated for major renovations and relocated to 158 Spring Street shortly before September 2021. Learn more >>

Students entering mid-year may register at any time.

  • Applications are processed on a daily basis, and students can usually begin attending school within 2-5 days of their registration being completed.
  • Limited seats are available and families entering mid-year may find that they do not have a choice of school. We recommend that families contact the Student Registration Center to learn which schools have openings for which your child would be eligible.

Registrations for the following September will be accepted as of the first business day each January.
Due to strong enrollment in our Upper School Programs, choices will be limited. School assignments are made as follows:

  • For Grade 6: Students will be offered a seat at the school where there are seats available and the student’s SES category (Free/Reduced Lunch or Paid Lunch) is under-represented. The total enrollment of each up to a total enrollment of 100.
  • For Grades 7-8: Registrations received by May 31 will be included in the CPS Upper School Lottery after May 31, seats will be offered on a first come first served basis.
We know that waiting for a school assignment can create anxiety for families who are already going through a great deal of change and transition. Please know that we will not forget about your child, and that we will be able to offer a placement before school begins.

In the meantime, you can reassure your child that he or she will be going to a great school, and explore the CPS website to provide a positive picture of several different schools where they may be assigned. If you have any questions or would like an update on the status of your child’s application, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
