Course Selection

Students must select courses that are specific to their grade level or in accordance with the course sequence in each subject area. For instance if you are rising 10th grade student who has completed chemistry, a typical grade 10 class, you should select the next course in the science sequence, biology. Please pay careful attention to grade level and prerequisites listed at the bottom of each course description and refer to course level recommendations from teachers, when selecting courses. Parent/guardian must email or call their child’s guidance counselor if the student is selecting a course level that was not recommended by the teacher. For more information on course sequencing by grade level, click on your child's current grade level: 9th grade | 10th grade | 11th grade.

Students must select a total of 8 courses:

5 Core academic courses, one course in each of the following subject areas: English, history, math, science or world language
1 Physical education, STARS, Drumline, Dance Company, dance course or take a RSTA course with embedded PE (students must select 2 primary PE courses if selecting PE)
2 Elective courses or select 1 elective and 1 additional core academic course

In addition, students should select at least 3 alternative courses to each elective course selected. Seniors will need to select at least 2 alternatives to their core academic classes.

Guidance counselors will be meeting with all students by grade level to review course selections. Guidance counselors will collect course selection forms at the end of the grade level meetings.
