TikTok Challenge + CPS Policies

TikTok Challenge + CPS Policies
Posted on 05/08/2025
Dear Cambridge School Community,

We want to alert you about a troubling trend on social media, specifically on TikTok. A new "challenge" encourages students to insert objects like pencil lead, paperclips, or push pins into their Chromebook computers. While these challenges may seem innocent to students, they can be very dangerous.

Inserting metal objects into an electronic device can cause electrical shocks or fires, and it can severely damage the Chromebook. This could lead to expensive repairs and disrupt your student’s learning and, most importantly, could cause risk of injury or harm.

Please remember that the parents/guardians/caregivers may be charged for the repair of intentional damage. Your student may also have disciplinary actions taken in accordance with our school policies.

We need your help to address this issue. Please talk to your students about the dangers of this challenge and remind them to use technology responsibly. Here are some important things to discuss:

1. Make safe choices online and avoid harmful trends.
2. Use school-issued devices only for educational purposes.
3. Tampering with devices can cause damage and safety issues.
4. There will be consequences for intentionally damaging school equipment.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe and ensuring technology is used appropriately. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s principal.
