Raising Expectations Yields Results for All Students

MathCPS Upper School mathematics was recently featured in a story on Edutopia that asks the question, "Is it Time to Detrack Math?"

Citing plentiful research into the negative impact of separating students by perceived academic ability, the article focuses on several school districts in the U.S. that have seen startlingly positive results from mixed-ability groupings in middle school math. In the words of the article, "Districts are moving to end the practice of tracking as research suggests that it may deepen educational inequities—with little benefit for students’ academic performance."
