Dear CRLS Community,

This afternoon, I was notified by Principal Smith that someone used spittle to trace a swastika on a windowsill inside one of the high school stairwells. This symbol is an affront to our values as a community. It is particularly disheartening that that this incident took place during the festival of Hanukkah, and so soon after the toppling of the menorah on Cambridge Common.

We will not tolerate the anti-Semitism that this symbol represents. Cambridge Public Schools takes any report of hate speech very seriously, and will seek to identify the responsible individual(s) and hold them accountable for their actions. We also view this occurrence as an opportunity for additional teaching and reflection on the persecution of the Jewish people and hate speech.

Our community stands together against hate.

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim
