Welcome Back from Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Salim
Dear Families,
I am honored to come on board as the new Superintendent of Schools in Cambridge and excited to welcome you back to a new school year. I stepped into my new role on July 1, and since then I have already learned a lot about what makes CPS a very special school system.
This is a great time for Cambridge Public Schools. The resources in CPS are impressive – including award-winning faculty, cutting-edge technology, innovative programs inside and outside the classroom, and even a “farm to cafeteria” food services program. It’s amazing to people outside of Cambridge to realize that every CPS student will learn to swim, ride a bike, and do ballroom dancing at school – and that’s just our health and physical education program! Our fine arts department, Upper School electives, engineering and science programs, two-way immersion schools/programs and public Montessori school are the envy of many other cities and towns across Massachusetts and the nation. I could go on for pages and pages about the abundance of resources within our school system.
That’s not to say there isn’t room for improvement. Working closely with you – CPS families – and other members of the community, I look forward to identifying areas where we need to grow and innovate in order to provide the best possible education to every one of our students.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming months through meetings and focus groups I will be holding throughout the Cambridge community. Families are an integral part of student and school success, and I hope to hear your ideas, concerns, and dreams for an even better CPS.
