Library Media Services
The Library Media Services Department (LMS) offers instruction and resources in print and online formats to provide a foundation for using libraries and information resources to cultivate a passion for lifelong learning. The library program, in collaboration with other educators, promotes and supports academic and recreational reading, the development of research and presentation skills by integrating the use of technology, and media production. Our school libraries also foster connections between the school community and local and global institutions and resources for teaching and learning. LMS operates the Teachers' Resource Center (TRC), a professional learning, instructional support, and technology center housed at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School.
Mission Statement
Library teachers collaborate with other educators, consult with administrators, and instruct students in order to provide programs and environments that:
- Nurture students’ intellectual and social growth;
- Translate curriculum frameworks into authentic learning activities;
- Identify, acquire, and organize resources to support all areas of the curriculum;
- Improve the teaching of effective inquiry and research skills to enable students to acquire, evaluate, and use information, and create new knowledge; and
- Incorporate emerging technologies and online resources into programs and curriculum-related activities.
Vision Statement
We envision the CPS school library information technology centers as the hub of the school community. Library teachers and classroom teachers co-plan and co-teach activities that are integral to the intellectual and social development of all learners. Carefully selected and updated resources support the curriculum and developmental interests and needs of all students. Flexible and dynamic schedules and spaces allow for a variety of rich experiences. Students grow to value the library information technology center as a place for independent discovery.
