Budget Information

Fiscal Year 2027

As of October 2025, the Cambridge Public Schools is actively planning for the new fiscal year, FY 2027. Our fiscal year begins on July 1, however our budget process begins much earlier. Because the School Committee and then the City Council are required to vote on our annual proposed budget, we follow a longer timeline that usually begins in the fall. Our budget process is inclusive and transparent, and includes many meetings with the Cambridge community and with staff. Typically, the process ends in early April with a vote by the School Committee, followed by a formal vote by the City Council.

Fiscal Year 2026 Recap

Following the approval of the Cambridge School Committee in April of the Cambridge Public Schools’ (CPS) proposed budget for fiscal year 2026, the Cambridge City Council voted on May 13 in support of the district’s $280 million dollar General Fund budget. The CPS budget continues to be anchored by its strategic District Plan by prioritizing four key focus areas:

  • Ensuring successful transitions from the Kennedy-Longfellow School
  • Strengthening educator effectiveness and accountability
  • Aligning expanded learning time with student needs
  • Coordinating efforts toward parent and caregiver engagement
