Mary, our science teacher, arranged a visit from some fire fighters and their fire engine. We combined our interest in vehicles and transportation with our study of water in science. The fire engine parked at the back of the school. The fire fighters showed us all the parts of the truck and talked about the water pump at the back of the truck. The fire fighters told us how the gauges and hoses on the side of the truck help them control the water to put a fire out. Mary put on the air tanks that the fire fighters use to help them breathe in a smokey fire. There is a special alarm on the tank to show where a fire fighter is if he falls down or gets hurt. We all got a turn to sit in the front of the truck. Some of us could reach the pedal that turned on the siren. All of us honked the very loud horn. The fire fighters answered all of our questions.
