Stacey in the Kindergarten Classroom.

Seevon in the Art Studio.
|
This fall the Kindergarten students at the Tobin school were fortunate to have Seevon and Stacey working with them in the art studio every day. Mark Cooper, their teacher at Boston College, worked with the artists and teachers organizing, communicating, and guiding the project to the final collaborative sculpture. We began the residency in the classrooms meeting each other and getting comfortable with materials. Then Stacy and Seevon took over the Art studio space combining six to eight children from several kindergartens for each visit.
Our found and recycled materials inspired a wide variety of creations which were displayed in a museum space at the entrance of the art studio. The art pieces of the children were often accompanied by drawings and written stories. When the children became intruiged with the idea of building factories the teachers and artists worked together to strengthen and support their ideas with field trips, videos, stories, computer games and classroom experiences. The final sculpture is a symbolic factory which is covered with collage of the childrens paintings and drawings, and can be used to display future creations in the studio.
