From Cambridge to Maynard we went to see our science pen pals. They had made a "Welcome Tobin" sign that was displayed on the school's front door. All five classrooms full of second graders went to the meeting room in the Green Meadow School to see a slideshow of all the science work that both towns have been doing all year as we studied our ponds.
The Green Meadow School had made a big alphabet book that described their town to us. They showed us a vernal pool poster that they had also made. They graciously served us snacks and we got to sit with our pen pals and chat.
Finally we were ready to go and see the "Grace Vernal Pool" that was located in their school woods. Through the woods we marched with our buddies boots and all. We tried to stretch out with our buddies to form a human chain around the vernal pool. Then our new friends showed us interesting things in the pool, like salamander eggs. The sun came out and we picnicked and played in their soccer field.
Back in the bus we left our pen pals but we'll see them again when they come to see our Black's Nook Pond in June.
