School-wide Beautification Project

Twelve classes at the Tobin took part in a school-wide beautification project!
On Tuesday, October 1, Over 40 tropical plants were planted in ten windowboxes under the careful supervision of Kathy Holland, Literacy Coordinator.
Each class, ranging from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade, selected and planted, as well as recorded and decorated a class sign under their beautiful creations.
With funds provided from the Science Department, Kathy was able to visit and select appropriate plants, windowboxes, soil, pumpkins, and fall plants with assistance from Mark Saidnawey and Mary Kucharski, Garden Managers at the Pemberton Farms and Garden Center here in Cambridge.
The classes will be responsible for watering their plants weekly with their own watering can that was also provided as part of the project.
Pat Chartier's class has even extended the activity by placing measuring sticks to watch and record in their science logs the growth and changes of their plants!
With the help of Nancy Lange's Second Grade and Dana Ellcock with Barbara Fox's class, three more windowboxes were created and placed in the cafeteria windows!
A big Tobin thank you to Pemberton Market and all the children and teachers who helped Ms. Holland create a "tropical garden," as well as to the Science Department who shared their funds!"
