Boston Magazine touts CRLS as "one of Best Public High Schools" in State!

CAMBRIDGE _ Two years ago, Boston Magazine lauded Cambridge Rindge & Latin School as the rare public high school to offer an education and all the perks of the region's best private schools.
This month, Boston Magazine affirms its respect for the students, teachers, and leadership at CRLS by ranking Cambridge's only public high school as the 14th best public high school in the state. The magazine ranked 141 Massachusetts public high schools.

Professor I. Elaine Allen, research director of the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson College calculated the rankings using a weighted average of cost and performance data over several years. Specifically, she used correlation analysis, factor analysis, standardization of scores, and Grey relational analysis to create a common metric for comparison.

"Because already high performing schools have little ability to increase their relative performance on standardized tests, two additional components were created: a factor for the relationship of a school's improvement to any increased costs, and a current cost efficiency factor, which measures academic performance against dollars spent."

The full report is available in the September issue of Boston Magazine, now available at newsstands. It is also available online at bostonmagazine.com/bestschools2008.
