Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year! This year the first day of school for Grades 1 - 5 is Tuesday, September 8, and the first day for Kindergarten (JK and K) is Thursday, September 10.

This year our staff will continue to focus our work on developing engagement, growth mindsets, and agency in our students and with our families. I am looking forward to working with our teachers and our families on developing a “Baldwin Way” of consistently approaching topics such as arrival and dismissal procedures, homework, and parent communication, to name a few. Our Site Council continues to be a place where parent engagement both occurs and is a topic, and I invite you to consider joining. Please contact Susan Tiersch, our Family Liaison if you are interested in participating. Our Site Council would be the venue for parents to be able to share their input in helping us identify “The Baldwin Way”.

Teachers and staff will continue to be a part of a Lesson Study Cycle, and we are looking forward to developing our teaching skills by working together, which we hope will be a model for how we approach our work with our students. We will continue to implement Student Led Parent Conferences in November/December and March/April, with a focus on the feedback we received from parents through our survey last year.

I’d like to welcome the following summer hires to our staff.

Music – Adam Epstein (K-2) and Lauren Ingram (3-4). Lauren is a new hire this summer, coming to us from the John Winthrop School in Boston. Prior to that she taught in Newton and also in Beijing. You may remember we hired Adam last May. He joins us from Somerville Public Schools.

Structured Academics Teacher - Crista Graves. Crista comes to us from the Kindergarten Autism Spectrum Program at the FMA, prior to that she has worked as a special education teacher at the elementary and middle school grades. She has clinical experience as a behavioral consultant and specialist at Boston Medical Center.

Nurse – TBA

School Psychologist – Megan Martin. Megan joins us this year while Christine Moloy pursues her PhD. Megan is an experienced school psychologist in Cambridge and comes to us from the Cambridge Street Upper School most recently, and Cambridgeport School prior to that.

Principal Intern – Rachel Harris – I am happy to welcome our Harvard School of Education Principal Intern Rachel Harris to our school this year. Rachel has taught seventh grade science for several years in Spring Branch, TX. She is looking forward to broadening her horizons outside of middle school and in this new country of Cambridge, MA.

I look forward to seeing everyone on the first day! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
