CRLS Annual Participatory Budget 
CRLS is launching its second annual Participatory Budget Process. CRLS would love to hear your ideas on how to spend $10,000 to improve the school community again!

To share an idea, you will need to complete and submit a proposal form.

This form must be submitted no later than January 15, 2019.

The packets are here! The packets are here!
That’s right – the CRLS Math Department’s pre-course packets are here once again. If your child is starting a new math class next semester they are required to complete a pre-course packet before it begins. The 1st day of Semester 2 is January 22nd.

Pre-course packets feature review material that your child should already know for the math class they will be taking. Teachers might count the packets for homework points or they may give a quiz on the material. The packets can be found online by clicking here. Packets are also available in the Learning Community S office on the 2nd floor of the Rindge Building.

If your child has any questions please have them speak with a math teacher or Mr. Gaglione.

CRLS Scholarship Workshops
CRLS community-based partners and Ms. Davis are excited to announce that we are hosting our Scholarship Workshop for the third year. The goal of this program is to increase access to free money for post secondary opportunities by helping seniors apply for scholarships in the CRLS portal.

Every Thursday from January 10th to February 14th, volunteers from Enroot, Breakthrough, UAspire, Workforce, Office of Youth Employment, and Cambridge School Volunteers will help with navigating the portal and essay writing. We will be in the main cafe from 2:30 to 4PM.

FREE English Classes for CRLS Parents
The English Language Learners (ELL) Department will offer classes for parents or guardians who are interested in learning English. Learn more >>

February 2020 Spanish Immersion
Trip Change
We are no longer visiting Argentina because the price was too high and we had low sign ups. We will now be going to Spain and Portugal for the Spanish immersion trip. There will be an informational meeting at 4:15PM on Monday, January 14th for parents and students.

Ski & Board Club

Volunteer with the Harvard Undergraduate Science Olympiad
We are Harvard Undergraduate Science Olympiad, and this year, over 400 MIDDLE SCHOOL students nationwide will be coming to Harvard's inaugural Division B Invitational Tournament on Sunday, February 10th, 2019. For more information, check out sciolyharvard.org.

We need volunteers in all sorts of areas, and no prior experience with Science Olympiad is necessary. Volunteer Opportunity
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a non-profit organization that provides a volunteer platform to recover excess fresh and prepared food from businesses and bring it to nearby non-profits who freely give this food to those in need. We are actively recruiting individual volunteers or small groups to sign up for weekly rescue slots. Some require a vehicle for transport and others can be done on foot or bicycle. Each volunteer opportunity averages only 45 minutes of time from start to finish. Learn more >>



Snow Shoveling
Seeking teens looking to be hired for shoveling this winter! The Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program partners with the Council On Aging each winter to help match local teens who are interested in making a little extra money with senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Cambridge who could use the extra help shoveling out. Teens should complete an application listing the neighborhoods they can shovel in during a snow storm (even if the T shuts down!), and the names of teens in that neighborhood will be shared with seniors looking to hire someone. Teens and seniors then negotiate a fair price and clear expectations for the job (with the teen keeping in mind that seniors are usually on fixed incomes, so don’t overcharge!). Teens are paid directly by the homeowner. If you have any questions, contact George Hinds.

Youth Employment
The Youth Employment Center, located in room 2101, is available each school day during all three lunches to assist young people who are hoping to access employment. The Center is staffed by employees of the City’s Office of Workforce Development and local non-profit Just A Start. Employees will work with any visitors to identify any currently recruiting employment programs that the teen should be referred to, and can also help any teen with their individual job search—helping to complete online applications, practicing interview questions, or developing a resume.

The Commission on Immigrant Rights & Citizenship (CIRC), a City department, addresses the needs of Cambridge’s immigrant community in identifying, accessing and obtaining City and local resources, including legal services. Reach out to CIRC through our website. CIRC, in collaboration with CLSACC, offers a free monthly immigration legal screening clinic on the third Wednesdays of every month, from 5:15 – 7:15PM at CLSACC’s office, located at 47 Thorndike Street in East Cambridge.

Subject-based Tutoring Services
Before-school Tutoring (7 - 8AM)
We are sharing space with Work Force. Our before-school tutoring will be located in room 2403 (in the middle of the hallway on the second floor).

After-school Tutoring (2:45 - 3:45PM)
After-school tutoring will be located in the College/Career Resource Center, room 1501.

Drop-In Math Tutoring
Monday - Friday | 7:30 - 8AM

College/Career Mentoring Services (2:30PM)
SAT Prep and College/Career Mentoring will be held in the CRLS Library's Inquiry Lab (formerly known as the fiction room).

SAT Prep
SAT Prep's Session I is from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Tuesdays at the CRLS Library, Inquiry Lab. Please encourage seniors to attend- all grade levels are welcome.

College/Career Mentoring
College/career mentoring is from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Wednesdays. In support of guidance, we help seniors with personal statements/scholarship essays, and post secondary education searches and applications. We reserved the inquiry lab to 3:30PM. However, mentors will continue to work with them in the library up to 4:30PM. The kickoff date is Oct. 3rd.

Jenny Smith is now available at the Career and College Center (CCRC) on Tuesday - Friday from 9AM - 3:30PM. uAspire works to ensure that all young people have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to – and through – a post secondary education. uAspire partners with high schools, community organizations, and colleges to provide college affordability advice to more than 10,000 young people and their families every year. Through our work, college-ready students have the support and knowledge they need to overcome financial barriers and succeed in college.
