Kindergarten Art Show
Kindergarten Art Show Beauty!
On Tuesday, June 12th the four JK/K classrooms put their art on display! All Spring they have been studying some of the great artists of the world - including but not limited to Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Georgia O'Keeffe, Kandinsky, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Romare Bearden and Marie Cassatt. The show was amazing and their efforts were on full display! Great work to all of our JK/K teachers and students!

Letter From Nancy
Dear Haggerty Families,
Thank you for another great year. I know you join me in thanking the Haggerty faculty for their ongoing efforts and tireless work.

Thank you for trusting us and for sharing your incredible children with us. Thank you for your hours and hours of volunteering, room parenting, coordinating events, shelving library books, and the countless other things our parent volunteers do!

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -- Margaret Mead

Enjoy your children and the change of pace the summer offers you and your family. Read often! Read together, share stories, think and talk about the mathematics you see in the world around you, color, paint, sing, swim and dance!

Best wishes for a relaxing, safe and enjoyable summer
~ Nancy

Summer Learning Challenge

Attention ALL Haggerty Students! We want you to participate in the Haggerty Summer Learning Challenge! This summer be sure to record the learning that you do on your Haggerty Learning Log. You can read, design, solve, sculpt, paint, sketch, practice, write, type or code. Cambridge has also published Summer math calendars by grade - use those for activity ideas! We want you to keep your brain busy all summer long. Each time you do something to help your brain grow...write it down on your log or ask a family member to record it for you. Students can bring their Learning Logs to school in September. **All incoming 3rd graders will receive 5 summer reading books from the ELA department. All learning logs should be brought back to school by Sept. 7th.

A Fun Day
End of Year Party in the Park!

On the evening of Wednesday, June 20th the whole Haggerty School Community gathered in the Haggerty Playground to celebrate the end of a terrific school year! Thanks to the subcommittee of parents who pulled off this wonderful event: Jen Richards, Kate Benanti, Sarah Vezeau, Laura Ratcliffe, and Carroll Magill! Thanks also to the many parent volunteers who made it all possible by supervising games and handing out food! It was a sincere team effort! There was a big bouncy-house obstacle course, a basketball game, big Connect-4, a bean-bag tossing game, chalk, and a photo-booth - as well as pizza and popsicles! It was a beautiful night and we had a fantastic turnout of families! Thanks to Friends of Haggerty for funding this fun-filled end of year party!

Fun Day
Haggerty Day Fun!
On Monday, June 18th the whole school gathered on the playground to get their first peek at the Legacy Project Mural. They then traveled up to Glacken Field for our annual fun at Glacken field day, led by the CRLS drum-line! Classrooms held banners and chanted. In the morning, the younger students made their way through the fun-filled stations, and the older kids followed suit in the afternoon. We appreciate all the MANY parent volunteers that helped to make this fun day possible!

A Music Corner
Music Corner
By Shelley Irvin-Kent
Haggerty Chorus went to Neville for the second time on June 8. Chorus regaled the residents with some of our favorites: What Can 1 Little Person Do, If You Dance, and Now I Walk in Beauty. We also sang pieces the audience knew: Daisy Bell (“Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do…”) and Red River Valley. Again, our friend Dominic regaled us with his version of Red River Valley. All the residents were grateful and showed it - “hip hip, hooray!” Thank you to Kate Benanti for first connecting us to Neville, and to Caitlin Roberts and Nicole Lamy for chaperoning. We hope to continue this relationship next year.

Keep singing over the summer! Sing lullabies before bed, sing to your pets, sing with the radio, sing with your family. Use a gentle voice and listen to each other. Make a list of your favorite songs you sing this summer and bring them in to Ms. Irvin-Kent in September. See you then!

Fifth Grade Moving Up
5th Graders Moving On from Haggerty!

On Wednesday, June 20th our fifth graders remembered their time at the Haggerty School in a Moving-On Assembly. Our 29 fifth graders broke up into groups of 4 or 5 and presented a slide show of their favorite memories from each grade - kindergarten through fifth grade! Highlights included apple picking in kindergarten, making maple syrup in first grade, scavenger hunting in Chinatown in fourth grade, and visiting the Farm School in fifth grade!

They also sang It's Time by Imagine Dragons, led by Ms Irvin-Kent and accompanied by a string section of 5th graders. Ms. Campbell gave a moving speech to this special group of fifth graders and reminded them to stay true to each other and themselves!

They closed the assembly by placing an item in a time capsule that they will retrieve when they graduate from high school!
All the fifth grade families moved outside to the playground to view the Legacy Project Mural and cut the ribbon - celebrating their hard work (see last page for all the details on the Legacy project)! Families then ventured to the West Cambridge Youth Center for a celebration, including lunch, yearbooks, and dancing! Thanks to the fifth grade teachers: Ms. Faucher, Ms. Stewart and Ms. Hickey for a wonderful year! And to all the parents who helped make this celebration so special! Special thanks to parents: Justin Brown for designing the t-shirts, Lisa Harteveldt and Marlyn Rosa for creating the yearbooks, Leah Klein for baking the rainbow cake, Shazia for creating the slide show full of memories, and Darrin Johnson for catering the lunch! We will miss you fifth graders! Remember to stick together on your next adventure!
